What laws, well maybe start with logic first just because you own 80% of a boat, doesn't mean you can sink it. You can't damage the 20% that you don't own. As far as I know it's illegal and most likely criminal in pretty much any state.

This is not how the real life investment world works... at all...

Tencent will not set out to sink "the boat (TM)."

Their initial rounds of meddling will cause a small dip in returns. This will justify more changes dictated by them, (which they will consider a prudent step in protecting PoE's value as an IP). Each instance of this "fiddling" escalates the negative preference cascade, which will, in Tencent's eyes, necessitate an even more hands-on approach to PoE's development.

This will simply exacerbate the flight of investment further. At some point down the road, it becomes "not worth the costs" and Path of Exile will be mercilessly shutdown without a second thought.

Tencent will blame all of this on GGG's management, not their own interference. It will ALL be done in the name of securing a RoI and I assure you, every bit of it is 100% legal.

I have seen this too many times to count properly, and it makes me wince every time a developer thinks they can maintain their sovereignty once they are bought out. Chris Wilson is not intentionally lying to us.

He's lying to himself.

Except both GGG and tencent agreed on specific terms of investment, which most likely include staying independent and no interference :) But w/e guess you just must assume the worse.
lul china poe is gonna be p2w. gross

majority of us supported small indie company we were growing with, there is a huge difference atleast for me to support multi billion china corporation now, it really hard to justify buying overpriced mtx now. sad that some of ggg owners decided to cash out. hope it turns well in the end, but i highly doubt it

Can't do much but add another voice to the pile. I know my support wasn't worth much but this has made packs a lot less appealing. I'll stick around and see how this all plays out but I expect that Conquest badge there will be my last.

I have read most of the posts to here. As a few others mentioned but didn't name, the self-fulfilling prophecy of the decline of the game is possibly going to start. People will stop buying supporter packs for two main reasons: fear of future P2W or Premium services, and second, supporter packs losing their appeal since you are no longer supporting an independent game company. This leads to less income which gets Tencent to eventually step in and force changes even fewer people will want to support.

I hope this isn't the case and I still plan on playing as long as I am having fun. My desire to support an independent company is still there, but the independence isn't, so I am less likely to spend more money.

Time to go fishin Chris! got the moneyz time to retire and fish, it's not like we didn't know it was coming been saying it for the past 2 years in this forums that you already sold out...
More money for GGG more fun for us :)

Tencent is disgusting and everything it touches rots.

It was fun while it lasted, but this is the gaming equivalent of being told you have cancer. You can fight it, treat it, and hope it goes dormant, but there's no real curing it.
Tencent has already invested in Blizzard.

So the bridge is now done between Diablo and POE.

Maybe some POE features/technology will be integrated in Diablo IV ?
