Adder's Touch

What I get from this thread: Adder's Touch is a +10% damage/second increase in damage.

That is non-trivial, and it can be as much as +20% damage/hit if you play hit-and-run tactics.

Fixed that for you. That makes a big difference.

Assuming you have a half decent critical hit rate and AS it's going to translate to a +10% of crit damage/second increase in DPS. So I guess I should have said a 20% (ish) DPS increase overall.

Since the effect doesn't stack and it's useless to try working with non-average numbers.

Edit: Assuming decent crit chance and crit multiplier. The number is going to do DOWN at high values of crit and AS, and up at lower values of crit and AS

I must admit I am confused by your statements. They seem to contradict. Usually a dagger build will be fairly high at both Crit and AS. But it is a fairly confusing mechanic since it does not stack.

I would like to see something added like: if Adder's Touch is applied to a target already affected by Adder's Touch, the existing debuff will be consumed dealing 50% of its remaining damage instantly.

I realize its a wordy and maybe complicated mechanic, but it seems to encourage the fast attack play style daggers are often known for.

My statement is that the exact DPS contribution fluctuates up or down based on crit chance, AS, and crit damage bonus

If you have 400% (total mutilplier) crit damage and 2 attacks/second at 50% crit you can reliably keep the buff up.

Your base DPS then becomes ~600% weapon DPS with 40% of weapon DPS/second added to your DPS by crits. That would be a roughly 8% total DPS increase, thankfully the node adds more than just the poison effect (+45% crit damage?). At 100% crit chance (with those values) your total DPS is 800% with 40% weapon DPS/second added from the passive making it a 5% DPS increase.

If someone would give me some estimated ballpark numbers for a viable build I can tell you how much actual damage DPS contribution adder's touch will add.

Deals chaos damage equal to 10% of the damage done by the hit per second, for 2 seconds.

EDIT:Yes, chaos damage - clarified my description.
A really basic question but one that makes a big difference: Is elemental damage from the hit counted as part of the total damage?

Is there supposed to be a visual effect for this skill? It would be nice to see a poison orb pop up when you crit, because along with burn you don't even notice the poison is there.

I'd really like to know this as well. Also does chaos damage receive increased damage from elemental weapon bonuses? Viper strike for example.

Chaos damage currently has no damage amplifier from any passives and is not counted as elemental damage itself so if you have (say) +10% elemental damage it is not increased.

On the upside it is the least resisted of damage types.

Yes, it's all damage dealt by the hit.
