Color in Path of Exile
There's some good observations here, thanks a lot!

If there is going to be any brightening can it be optional? Personally I have no problem recognizing monsters, characters, interactables and scenery and I love the way the game currently looks. So I have to take the side of those that like the current state.
However I do agree that the map is hard to see in a jungle for example even at no transparency. |

I agree with the OP , the more you can spruce up the toons/gear without going overboard the better/more attractive the game is going to be and will more than likely attract more players .

I was on the fence about this until I started to play more with groups. Now I have to completely agree. It's very difficult to differentiate between mobs and friendlies currently. It's especially difficult when there are a lot of summoned zombies/specters on screen.
A lot of this has to do with being able to target friendlies, though. If you took that out, it wouldn't be such a mess trying to find the actual enemy in a group of specters and zombies. - When it pains, it roars!

I like what the OP has done here with that colour edit. I am all for something what would make main characters stand out more from everything else. It's not so important to distinguish between all the enemies and items, but characters should be easy to find.

I completely agree. Grim Dawn looks very visually interesting and distinct, PoE does not. Hell I'm continually having problems distinguishing my character from the ground in the Dread Thicket. There seriously needs to be less brown/grey/dark green in this game.

I definitely agree.
I was in a party last night running through the Dark Forest, and half the time I couldn't tell the difference between a friendly Ranger and a hostile Archer mob. I found myself firing spells at my party members quite often.. I never had this problem in Diablo 2 because it was easier to tell who was friendly and who wasn't. Character models need a little more colour in them to differentiate them from the mobs (particularly the Ranger). |

Agreed that just changing the character color could have a good impact. In a party this morning, I also found myself shooting at friendlies

I think game would benefit from more saturated color palette as a whole. While this desaturated look has it's own charm, I think they are a bit overdoing it. Not only it's hard to see what it's happening but actually, if game would be using more vibrant colors, these less saturated zones would feel much more unique.

Yeah agreed with OP, the graphics as it is, hurt my eye >< Can't differentiate between you and the environment... and also friendlies. A little color would be a nice thing, I think that GGG took the "dark and gritty" atmosphere a bit too far.
