Unique Weapon Models?

The problem with paying to look better is that you want unique items to not only perform unique functions, but also have unique aesthetic characteristics.

There are so many other things that GGG could charge for besides making your character look cool. Extra classes? Extra (but not necessarily better) skills? More content doesn't = pay to win.

I never thought I'd see someone arguing against paid aesthetics in favour of inbalancing the game.

The reason i'm doing this is because I want this game to continue to receive support, updates and the credit it deserves. I simply don't think paying for aesthetics is a good idea; people like to show off their gear in these games and this would ruin that concept altogether. I see a flashy character with armor I've never seen before? "Oh, that guy payed for his armor's look, so it could be anything". What the hell is the fun in that, tell me? I want to see "damn, he has THAT armor? Thats really rare and probably means he's awesome!"

I'm not in favor of "inbalancing" the game, I'm in favor of having GGG making money and thinking of alternative solutions. Why not pay a few bucks so you have the chance of a new skill gem dropping or pay 20 bucks to unlock extra classes, or set up an auction system where they take part of the cut like diablo. We all know people are going to sell these items on Ebay/start their own item websites anyway, so why can't GGG make money off that?

The fact is, if these loot games are good enough someone will find a way to make money off the items...if the developers are smart they'll realize this, no matter how much fans don't like it. And they could just make separate leagues where the auction houses weren't available; you could play in those and forget that people pay at all.

I personally don't understand why people think paying for the look of a character is a good idea. You either just want to play for free (which will ruin the game's support/possibility of future games) or you want to give charity through the veil of something that's not only unnecessary, but also damages the core structure of the item system.

A separated auction house would not cause harm, if anything it would make the in game economy more fully realized. If you don't want to play with real money attached, fine. But if you're one of those people who hates the idea of something but does it anyway, take a second look at your own actions. Its the same as going to a real store and maxing your credit card out, then blaming the store for having such awesome stuff.

I couldn't agree more esoteric. People are failing to understand this aspect somehow.
Folks, if this is how the current system will still then there will be no way to tell who's got good items and who sucks. This video game has no distinction of character.

Now I'll add it's still in Beta so they may have just not got it it yet, but if the game keeps its item scheme as is in favor for making money off of selling weapon and armor mods, I don't think they will make a lot of money, or atleast at first until people get sick of running 100+ hours to end up with a level 1 looking character with good stats, sounds realllllllllly boring.

The whole point of ARPG's is to show of your hardwork, for example, finding unique and powerful weapons and armor. There's nothing unique about my bow if this is how it's going to stay. Nobody is going to be able to tell what I got, and then someone buys a weapon mod, makes there bow look sick, and yet it sucks? There nothing that makes my character unique from the thousands of others, there's nothing to work for except stats, I can do that in Diablo 3 AND get my armor, and all I gotta do is pay a one time fee and play forever, I consider that F2P if its not monthly based, paying that 50 or 60 is what the dev's deserve, and if they have to go the pay 50 bucks route for Path of Exile so we can actually have distinction among characters then they should because Ide much rather pay the devs back that way then this cheap little system they're about to deploy if what people say is going to happen.

This system is terribly flawed and needs reworked, flat out.

I thought this was common knowledge but every base type will eventually have unique 2D and 3D art. There are actually small updates to this every patch. Unique items will also eventually have their own art. This is all very low priority stuff though so don't expect it anytime soon.
