Unique Weapon Models?

Can you make a case for small aesthetic changes to normal /magic / rare items being anything more than a trivial addition? Can you make a case for not being able to do this for free being a 'game breaker'?

Pay hats in TF2 are trivial, but I'm betting there is a good amount of income coming from those. I will be buying some of the aesthetics, but not because they are 'important'. PoE is plenty pretty without them already. I'd like to support PoE ( and GGG for making it ). I think unique visuals are nice, and so I will buy them. They aren't really 'important' though.

Priorites my dear fellow. Little aesthetics and nuances, such as weapon models, are quite low on the totem pole. Why? Because they ARE trivial. They have no impact on gameplay, mechanics, or balance.

Have you forgotten that this is a Closed Beta, and absolutely FREE? The Closed Beta means it's a work in progress and things are developed according to their priority. A few visuals are not a priority. The Free part means that some things, like weapon skins, are in fact trivial, due to their low or nonexistent impact, at certain levels of game progression and development.

I understand this, do you understand that my first post was an answer to the hypothetical question of "if the items look normal/you have to pay to make them look cool..."? I know its a work in progress, note the important "if" in my first post. I'm talking about the final released game and what system they are going to use to make money. I'm saying I don't think aesthetics are trivial (so they could potentially make money off it), however I don't think that particular system is their only option, and I certainly don't think its the best option.

And so ? what do you want theim to sell ?
seriously ? have you something better in mind ? or you ultimately think that free to play must be free and super top cool in everyway ?
what's the means to earn money then ?
and when I say earn money it's begin by paying the cost of the server where YOU play this game...

How about you read my first post, it answers most of your questions. There are plenty of sensible things that they could charge for that could enhance the experience by expanding content, rather than contradicting the underlying concept of a "unique" item, which is what everyone is after in this game. This is a loot game, and uniques are the best of the loot. They should be unique, in function AND in appearance.

Just some unique colours would be enough imo. Like in Diablo 2. Maybe add a small detail to a base model. Like additional strings for OP's bow for example, and change the bow colour to black.

I would like one of the pay options to allow slotting weapons and armors as cosmetic items. I would especially like it if my character could appear to be wielding a specific staff (ie. the ribbed staff), regardless of which staff weapon he is equipped with at the moment.
That would be confusing on PvP servers.

True. It could be disabled in PvP contexts though.

My hope is to have visual effects for weapon mods. So if I have an axe that does extra fire damage, it would look to be on fire, if it does lighting or cold damage there would be corresponding effects. Kinda like an elemental aesthetics pack or something.

100% sure something like this will be offered, matter of fact, an older video of in-game footage showed players with fire/ice effects on their weapons.

And..... Chris's Keyblade has some sort of glow effect too.
Why this conversation exist ?

Let the dev make their choices, let the dev make their game. We are only players here. And if we don't agree with their politics and their choices, we can choose to leave this game.

When you're going to buy a car, if you want an option you will pay for it.
