Hacked Accounts

Just a thought, but what if you guys implemented a trade pw that you urged people to change often? That might help out a lot.
I've seen them... and they've seen me.

to all those that are continuing to vent/whatever. try this:

put yourself in GGG's shoes right now... perhaps even Chris himself. now stop for a moment and ask yourself: "how must this feel".

Also try and realize the scope of everything that's happened since "you" began at GGG, a small indie company that has grown very, very fast, while you try tirelessly and diligently to keep up with it.

Now back to being yourselves:

Is it really too much to ask for you to have a little compassion, a little understanding?

i'm not asking you to agree with everything, or to even agree with anything... however considering the circumstances, is it too much to ask for you to cut them a little slack right now and wait the 24-48 hours Chris has asked us to wait and see what improvements in security are to be implemented?

At which point if you wish to continue to be __________ (pick a word that suits you), go ahead... keeping in mind the above point I made of putting yourself in their place.

ty for your time and I hope there is something in the above post that has touched you. We are all human, we, at times, make mistakes. And we need to help each other back up, not push each other back down :)

considering all of this is happening because Chris announced security upgrades BEFORE implementing them really leaves no sympathy to be had

i think chris is an idiot and all this is his fault. if he hadn't said a word about security and just did it without anyone knowing then this wouldn't be happening.

oh, and then he goes even further to accuse all the victims of being cheaters and attempting to use 3rd party programs which is a pretty insane accusation to make.
Reports of hacks are flows even more. I guess Chris will only admit PoE's flaws of security system after 30k of his respective player that sits on their own respective ladder or more famous streamer gets hacked.

Every retard would just use "cat" as the password and then blame GGG.. again.
On this thread too.
People should read this https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/mike-obrien-on-account-security/
Prozon did his normal night of farming and playing and "went to bed"
He then downloaded and installed Tor.
After running tor he created a new account with an IP address from another country.
Emailed support saying he couldn't access his game account or email account. (really have no idea what the email said and is funny that this even happaned)
They changed email address or password (what ever it is they did) for Prozon.
Loged into the game (with a new IP address not from the country) under new email address and transferred items to the new account (that was not linked to his IP address as he's now using TOR and IP address changed)
Emailed support saying he got hacked.
GGG restored items.

This isn't 100% what happened, but this does happen, and not just in games. If you say ANY theft, mean any theft. You can't bend the rules on this without expecting some backlash. No one can prove that it was or was not Prozon that "hacked" his account. Solely basing it off of IP address is flawed in so many ways.

Do the right thing GGG if you're going to bend the rules for one person, better bend them for everyone.

I want to be completely clear - our security has not been breached. If our database had been compromised, the accounts that attackers would target first would be the most wealthy players, the high profile streamers or the developers. Imagine how much it'd be worth to compromise my account? Kripparrian's? The top people on the ladder? These people have not lost their passwords. There has been a 0% rate of developer accounts being accessed by overseas IPs. ...

As a professional developer, I shudder to think what your database arrangement looks like, in that it allows you to assume that one entry point being compromised would represent enough of a security breach that an attacker could sift through enough information to determine who the most famous and/or most wealthy accounts are and target them specifically. And I shudder to think that your understanding of security is narrow enough to believe that they would necessarily act in such a targeted and obvious fashion even if they did have that option.

I shudder to think it does not occur to you those who have access to a huge multitude of game website databases(which include usernames, emails and passwords) would not sift through them all and target individuals that are known to have valauble items or are famous/high status.

It's called cross-referencing! Seriously all it takes is a bit of ingenuity and detirmination, something which GGG was founded upon. Some people act like this game is well-established and is not in OPEN BETA or has not been produced by a small independant group of kiwis, 4 or 5 at the core.

Allthough I'm sure you are the type of person who is never wrong either. Props to chris for admitting some things were overlooked and owning it. As to be expected yeah?

YY, I don't know how to handle my computer and downloaded some "hacks", I also have shit password like 12345, and I use the same mail/name/password on every registery conceivable

->> get hacked

FUU GGG :////////

Cool synposis for the QQ newbs here.

And for anyone talking about stream and high profiles, your contentions are utterly retarded. Kripp for example has done more for the game then all of you weepers will ever do combined, and I still doubt GGG would make any exception for him or anyone else. The one incident involved GGG giving away someones account and realizing basically "GGG" themselves scammed someone accidentaly, which is supposed to be reverted, any company would do that. It was the only thing morally right to do, if you use that incident as ground for your already lacking arguement, you should just rethink and come back with another cool story that doesn't make you appear to be violently perplexed.
