[2.2 Perandus] Cheap, Easy, Beginner Friendly Flameblast Elementalist (Video Added)

I just recently came back to the game; I've played past 70 before, but not very far. I ran a couple characters up into the 20's in Perandus before I started this build but it quickly became my favorite in the league.

I'm currently 49 and have my first Ascendancy, playing with all self-found gear. I'm absolutely wrecking house, killing as fast as I can run through a zone. I've never felt so OP!

Two questions:
1) I'm still using Firestorm, but I've been leveling Flameblast in a spare socket. When is the appropriate time to switch, and what are the advantages of Flameblast over Firestorm?

2) Will this build continue feeling crazy OP through Merciless? I assume I'll slow down at some point and need to actually get some decent gear. What should my first purchases be?

Thanks a million for this thread, I'm having an absolute blast with the build!

I would switch once you have the templar and witch area nodes as this hurts fire storms single target.

If fire storm is working out well for you then you could hold off until you get the cruel ascendancy points for beacon of ruin.

The build wrecks through red maps, which is content far beyond what most players see. So if you've got the dedication to grind into the 90's and beyond, this build won't have any issues.

Thanks for the reply!

I'm over 60 now, and do have those nodes. I swapped in Conc Effect for Inc Area, and Firestorm is still clearing quite well.
I'm also very successfully using Flame Surge for single target.

Excellent. I just stepped into Merciless, will be going back for my second Ascendancy soon.

That's wonderful to hear. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm certain that Flameblast will edge out Firestorm soon, it's definitely better at delivering huge burns, and benefits more from our passives. Part of my issue, I'm sure, is that I have no practice with it. Got any additional tips?

My blast positioning is poor. I'll catch part of a pack, but then need two or three more blasts to clean up, often while they're beating on my face. All too frequently I find myself channeling a huge blast in order to catch a single enemy.

Also, it feels super awkward to stop moving for so long to channel. With Firestorm I just stop for a fraction of a second and rain hellfire across a huge swath of the screen. Flameblast takes more skill, which I haven't developed yet.

I find myself getting rattled and breaking my channel early to move, wasting that whole time standing still while not damaging anything. Other times my blast turns out to have been poorly placed and is wasted. I end up spending a lot of time channeling, not enough time moving, and it takes me way longer to clear.

I'm currently using Warlord's Mark with my Herald of Thunder. Would switching to Temporal Chains make that significant a difference? Is it worth running Inc Duration or Inc AoE with HoT?

Thanks again for this thread and any responses you have!

UPDATE
I'm 72 now, got my Cruel Ascendancy points. My gear is still really poor, I'm still using a 4L.

If anyone is wondering whether Firestorm remains viable into your 70's, it absolutely does. I replaced Faster Casting with Innervate, because FC wasn't making a lot of difference to my play.
My links now are Firestorm -> Concentrated Effect -> Controlled Destruction -> Innervate. And holy cow do I tear through packs. I'm cruising through Merciless Dried Lake as fast as I can run (which is quite fast with 50% increased run speed). Voll is a pushover, never has a chance to close with me.

All my skills are on mana. I'm using HoI, HoT, and AA, and spamming Firestorm without issue.
I have HoT linked with CoH, Warlord's Mark, and Blind. This is great utility. Max endurance charges, Faster flask refil, and constant health and mana leech, plus blind's defensive utility.

I'm using CwDT with Immortal Call and Temporal Chains.
For movement I use Flame Dash, linked with Faster Casting and Flame Surge.

Flame Surge (even unsupported except FC) is showing over 10k tooltip, which is plenty for the occasional tough single target.

I'll be looking to upgrade my movement / single target group to a 4l (fire pen?), and my main attack to 5L soon.

My setup may not be viable for map bosses (I'm not there quite yet), but I'm absolutely crushing through Merciless with crap gear and a 4l.

Comments and suggestions welcome!

That's an interesting alternative. Do you have +1 curse somewhere (and if so, where?), or do Temporal Chains and Warlord's Mark cancel each other?

Does this build leech life or mana at all? I'm currently having mana problems and don't see how to sustain myself with MoM. Also, why do you use a dagger instead of a wand or something? Can't you get more cast speed from wands?
Thanks for the info, looking forward to playing more of this build in the 2 week race.
I see no crit in the build, is there a reason not to pick up the elemental overload node?

OK, so I've been having some great fun with this build in standard but was still having trouble standing there as a target while my flameblast stages and I happened to craft via the Labyrinth, this Devoto's helm, So what I do when I encounter a mob is hit it with Temp Chains ( supported by Increased Area of Effect, so it curses just about everything), then blast some Ball Lightning with my helm enchant of 30% slower ball speed supported with knockback and that gives me plenty of time to stage my flameblast which then I usually trigger by hitting Ball Lightning again to kick back any stragglers I missed or foes that didn't die in the first blast.
The 30% slower Ball Lightning w/ knockback is very effective against melee mobs ( I usually end up centering the flameblast half off the screen because of how much it kicks them back) but works with ranged mobs as well because it tends to disrupt them too...not only that but the lightning balls "soften up" the mobs as well.
It's rare, usually sloppy play on my part, for a foe to get close to me anymore.

Nice Build. Played it for the 48h flashback event, didn't even get to play the entire event and made it to level 60 with no trouble whatsoever.
