[2.2] Occultist (Contagion + Essence Drain) Beginner starting build
" I think it doesn't affect the spread, for better or worse. I think there are still some troubles with bugs related to these skills, but IMO the explosions don't affect the spread yet I can't really confirm this. |

Whats the range of Void beacon? Nearby = what?

" Its about half a screen away from the character. maybe a little more. You need to be some what close to mobs, but not extremely close. |

OK so here's my take on a CI hardcore version
http://www.poeurl.com/zZW Some explanations - 2 energy from within jewels - high life regent since we don't leech - ascendancy is ES focused because HC; I don't care for "nearby" monsters - lots of reservation nodes: alpha howl has no ES and i' d run discipline + 2x curse blasphemy + low lvl clarity - eye of chayula necessary Links - ED + void manipulation + rapid decay + cont destruction + empower + Pierce - blasphemy + temp chain + enfeeble + enlighten - congestion + Inc aoe + faster casting + increased duration - spell totem + wither + faster casting + increased duration - stone golem in unset ring - faster attacks + whirling blades + fortify - discipline + clarity + enlighten I'd be more than happy to discuss all of this - this build is clearly very defensive but I don't want to reep. Mana might be an issue so feedback on mana management would be great too! What are your mana pools at lvl 80 ? Last edited by ytz#0399 on Mar 17, 2016, 5:54:55 AM

" Contagion is more than enough in a 3L setup (Contagion - Faster Casting - Increased area of effect). Essence Drain's best 6L setup is ED - Void Manipulation - Rapid Decay - Controlled Destruction - Pierce - Empower. Please note that the skill level makes a huge difference when talking about pure dot DPS. Having a lvl 20 ED and a lvl 3 empower is a lot less DPS than having a lvl 21 corrupted ED and a lvl 4 corrupted Empower. To push the DPS to really high levels this build needs some serious currency investment. If I'd choose an endgame gem setup, it'd be the following. 6L ED / VM / RD / CD / Pierce / Emp 4S (Head - Heretic's veil) Temporal Chains / Vulnerability / Enfeeble / Arctic Armour 4L (Gloves - Winds of Change) CWDT / Immortal Call / Increased Duration / Vaal Grace 4L (Boots) Contagion / FC / Inc AOE / Vaal Lightning Trap 3L (Dagger) Whirling Blades / Faster Attacks / Fortify 3L (Spirit Shield) Wither / FC / Spell Totem When you have the endgame gear, Abyssal cry is completely useless. |

Where does pierce suddenly come from? In 2.1 this slot was most of the time filled by slower projectiles...
Any opinions on uniques for body, boots, dagger and shield? I think either Divinarius (spell damage, inc aoe), Consuming Dark or Bino's might be usefull as dagger. For the rest I have no idea. |

" The pierce gem was changed in Ascendancy, now it gives the same damage increase of slower projectiles at level 20, but it doesn't have the slowing debuff thing. It's a must have, in fact I am leveling it to 20 when I get some free time to replace slower proj soon. I played my ED character in Talisman League and haven't played it a lot after Ascendancy came out because I'm rolling a Whispering Ice caster in Perandus, and because of the multiple ED / Contagion bugs (luckily, now they seem to be fixed). This was my gear in the past league (now in Standard, obv). I want to try the new headpiece to remove Blasphemy from the gem setup and add Arctic Armour for an even more defensive powerhouse. My ED tooltip on my Scion in Standard (in hideout) is this at level 95. If you have questions or doubts, well I am not a gigaforumspammer, but I try to help when I can. I evaluated the passive tree for the Occultist build you posted, and here are my conclusions:
The build lacks any type of damage mitigation. The closest form of damage mitigation is Mind over Matter, but the build also lacks mana, which seems to necessitate getting Eldritch Battery and Zealot's Oath. Without getting any mana passives, it should be possible to use Vulnerability, Temporal Chains (with a Heretic's Veil) and Arctic Armour (another form of damage mitigation). The cost of this damage mitigation, with respect to your original passive tree, is mainly 15% life and 1 jewel socket, but 15% spell damage and 4% cast speed is gained from Light of Divinity. I hope you agree that 30% damage mitigation is better than 15% more life and 1 jewel socket. Anyway, here is a draft of your tree I made with the changes I discussed:

" I agree with the concept of your build. This was also my conclusion when I played my ED Scion in the past league (and as you can see from my screenshot in my previous post, I have ES on mana because I use EB / MOM / ZO). If you invest 4 points into mana reservation passive nodes you get 16% reduced mana reserved, which is sufficient, when using Heretic's veil, to run AA + 3 curses. Using EB will allow you to cast even if all your mana is reserved, and will make you run near-to-impossible-otherwise map mods like no regen. In this scenario, you have a lot of damage mitigation sources: - Enfeeble - Temporal Chains - Arctic Armour - MOM - Fortify (from whirling blades) plus some good damage ignoring mechanics: - Block - Spell block - Dodge - Spell dodge - Evasion I think Scion is better, in 2.2, for the ED gameplay. With the combined powers of Occultist and Deadeye you get a good damage boost, a nice ES boost, 15% enemy chaos res lowering and 100% pierce that is AMAZING especially when dealing with totem maps. |
