Firestorm and vaal storm call duration Tank fighter

vaal molten shell is great altrnative to vaal storm call,
escpecially if u wanna grab RT.
if u have some crit or the flat chock chance from elementalist tho,
vaal SC s good at shocking for more dmg. increased. w.e.

i also went dual curse, +duration means curses stick for 20+seconds.
anytime i knew was gonna take dmg used AA while casting.

I have recently modified my build so that it will become more focused and better controlling

Gem combinations:

Firestorm - echo - added cold - fire penetration - life leech
vaal storm call - duration - echo - added lightning (debating swap to light pen)
herald of ice - reduced mana - ele weakness
herald of thunder - elemental proliferation - added cold 20% - mana leech

cast when damage taken - enduring cry - molten shell
(enduring cry will be replaced vengeance + fortify gem
will self cast enduring cry for added defences when necessary)

the quality added cold results in a 20% chance to freeze enemies with herald of lightning, i have also already accounted for the nerf to proliferation coming, as herald of ice is currently just an added damage booster i may replace it with wrath, which will be applied also to spells from what i have seen. (unconfirmed wrath increases existing lightning damage by 30%, source: ziggyd ranting if true, will only lose some minimum damage on firestorm, not a lot of maximum)

Questions and Answers:

zephiroth3 - double curse maybe with the new gems, and even then reserved for bosses, life leech is for tankage and safety, there isn't much i need to replace it with right now anyway other than faster casting or conc effect (which would also required increased so i get same range, 5l here)

alkoxide - i chose vaal storm call because its fun, yes this would also likely work incredibly well with vaal molten shell, vaal spark? i guess but thats quite a windup for soul charges (vaal spark - echo - penetration (if it doesnt already?)/duration elsewise - light penetration. stuck inside glacial arena thing yea would hurt like hell), vaal storm call gets often use, and likely usable twice on bosses due to mob killing, but yea, that would also be devastating. is this build atziri viable? havent attempted (i get shitty drops and dont wanna buy it a round), but 75% sure its a yes, however i would swap back to herald of thunder - reduced mana - mana leech, because i dont know you would proc herald of thunder fighting her, and i had to disable my clarity to swap the added cold in for mana. in this kinda fight your regening 11% of your life per second and leeching 10% of your firestorm damage. simply avoid any excessive damage spikes she might do as usual.

As for a guide, id recommend starting with the marauder section then templar, so all you have to look forward to is damage later on and not poking along at defense. i started with firestorm start to finish no difficulties, used stun early levels to lock down most mobs before swapping to fire pen/added cold. my gear and items are already listed.

Have you consider going for blood magic on 2.0?? you have high leech and regen so you could offset the cost very easily. Also in 2.0 you get 35% life on the nodes behind blood magic... HUGE bonus. Then you can drop the mana leech gem and go for HoT-CoH for some quality of life.

I dropped 1 of my CWDT to test out VAAL Storm Call with your recommended, echo, inc duration, added lightning...

It started as a lvl 1 gem... and was able to purge a large chunk. I will continue to level it.

You are right, for mapping, this is definitely AWESOME! I havnt tried any crazy bosses yet, but I am liking it.

Edit: Not so great against bosses... Oh it deals wonderful damage when there are things to kill to feed it. But the spawns/adds do not give charges... so that is a draw back... Tested in a 78 domi map, as well as domi merc, as well as all of my dailies.

A new thing to consider, there's now a ring that converts lightning to cold, so i may again be modifying my build or possibly simply starting an alternate one. I intend to use gems that grant extra vaal souls. Vaal storm call only uses 16 charges. with 80 odd percent chance to get an extra charge on shatter and 22% chance to gain an extra charge implicitly you can essentially have man instances of it going off simultaneously. More experimentation will occur on release.

In general i am looking at altering my current character build into pure fire with these new items as its now possible to convert all elements into fire damage easily. This would mean no extra vaal soul on shatter.

As an alternate I plan to grab another character using the new ring to convert lightning to ice and run an easier hybrid through that method, as i can focus on the lightning nodes rather than hybrid nodes on the tree. It also enables lightning skills to actually chill unlike with three dragons helmet, although some examination into penetrations and weakness gems will be needed, as since it will be hybrid element on each gem rather than two gems dealing different elements.
