Firestorm and vaal storm call duration Tank fighter

The character used is currently called Chaotic_Storms. I would like to point out that this build can also be started from templar or marauder if you wish.

I love firestorm. So naturally when vaal storm call came out with its durational attack, i wanted to make a build with the two. I actually originally shelved this build because it was supposed to be just for fun, an amusing build. Then, boom heralds came, and yet again two patches, making my build more and more possible. Instead of having my build nerfed, it became super effective.

Concept and description:

Firestorm covers a large area hitting enemies and often stunning them. The damage is solid because its self cast and continues to hit, like rapid attack melee guys. Vaal storm call gets charges easily and when unleashed, can speed up room clears or boss clears. It also provides some safety when opening chests: cast vaal storm call before opening, and the mob gets spiked hard by two vaals. This build is also a tank, with 10% life leech on firestorm and 10% life regeneration, resulting in extremely high survivability. It also self sustains its mana 80% of the time with herald of lightning. Since herald of lightning also proliferates and freezes enemies, it often produces excellent crowd control when surrounded by mobs and makes shattering with herald of ice all the easier. By using pyre ring all my cold becomes fire damage, and my fire damage shocks. With a 10% shock chance on firestorm enemies are shocked 95% of the time.

Crowd control, tank, dps, and damn fun. Character is at level 81 now and will probably be my first to 100.

This looks interesting, can you provide some screenshots of your stats?

At first thought, I wouldn't use echo on firestorm, just for mobility.
Maybe you can swap Cold Damage for Chaos or Culling Strike? I Guess Item Rarity or Inc AOE would also a possible alternative.

i wouldn't recommend added chaos as a rule unless you plan on doing a focus of totem damage - spell damage or trap - spell damage, otherwise you lose alot of damage by adding chaos, especially to firestorm because of the damage effectiveness of 20% (added chaos damage would be multiplied by 0.2 before any increases occured).

or alternatively skip the added chaos and use infernal mantle (25% fire as chaos) or apep's rage (its like an added chaos to spells, but has a massive cast speed boost).



added cold damage and herald of ice becomes fire because of pyre ring, swapping it for culling would be pointless considering clear speed is already high. rarity if you wanna go there for mf sure, increased aoe, you can do sure, but remember the tradeoff of focus verses larger area, sure the drop range and explosion size increase, but its easier to hit a target multiple times with a focused assault than a large one.

the change is the fire nodes in templar section that also have 1% life regen and more chance to freeze for defensive purposes (herald of thunder currently has 10% freeze, 20% with these nodes and it proliferates). if the extra freezing doesn't work as i like, ill swap it for more armor and life in templar and marauder tree areas.

The lv 100 tree looks super tanky but a bit weak in damage.

You get a 6.069 damage modifier on your tree for firestorm (not including equips) VS. my 4.05 but,

you just lost 110% of your armor increase, 17% increased life, 46 added life, and 1.8% life regen. your threatening squishyness unless you have some powerful ass armor apposed to mine, which gives me 35% physical reduct atm.

The damage isnt bad at all, like i said think attack speed, think of those rogues and duelists attacking 4-6 times a second, then look at your character. you cast x times per second, but that cast lasts however long, so you can keep stacking casts to get more hits going at once. you want more damage in the build?

note i added 58% more armor from the corner with 20% less crit hurt, you can swap for the 3 cast speed nodes in middle of tree if you wanna skip that.

more cast speed, and some more damage, you also wanna pick up a quality firestorm, like you see in my boots. also you helped me noticed i missed 1 duration wheel, thanks.

firestorm unmodified drops every 0.1 second: 1.3s = 13 fireballs vs. mine 1.885s 18 fireballs vs. two duration nodes 2.47s 24 fireballs vs. with duration 19 gem, 3.289s 32 fireballs, quality 3.4s = 34 fireballs

firestorm max quality drops 0.08 second: 1.3s = 16fb, 1.885s = 23fb, 2.47s = 30fb, 3.289s = 41fb, 3.4s = 42fb

my planned offensive comes from cast speed and duration stacks, if i get lucky i may add an enhance, super lucky, corrupted enhance making it 24% quality boost, thats 0.056 drop speed, 17 fireballs in a single second. the quality firestorm is in my boots catching up in level atm.

And yes, i am a theology nerd, i find planning and experimenting builds fun. I have plenty of crazy builds, and no time to try them all so if anyone wants something fun, let me know.

I actually have a very similar build
firestorm+vaal storm call w duration, high regen.
duration also benefits CWDT EC IC+duration if u wanna use that, which is a nice bonus.
i also went dual curse, +duration means curses stick for 20+seconds.
anytime i knew was gonna take dmg used AA while casting.
found it easier than kiting, and u dont need life leech for reflect.
hows vaal spark or vaal molten shell with this build? i used vaal spark+vaal glacial hammer last season to absolutely destroy bosses or just vaal spark alone to clear large portions of maps.

also, what would be a good leveling tree progression? would you recommend flameblast or firestorm for leveling?
