[2.0] Cold-to-Fire Pyre Ice Nova Marauder Tank (Cheap!)

is this HC viable?
Hey all,

Want to share my experience with this build. I tried many ice nova builds since now but none was enough tanky for me.

I prefer doing less damages and be more tanky and this build is doing well about it. Don't know if it is hardcore viable, but i am not a very good player and for the first time during my leveling, i don't die at each difficult pack/boss.

The main problem of this build is mana regen, i am using lightning warp with cast on curse and warlord's mark to regen life and mana on pack. Lightning warp actualy shock ennemies too and enable celestial punishment to trigger just before i am going to full aoe with ice nova.

I don't take the marauder part of the build actualy, just took the wheel with life + reduced mana cost of skills in templar instead.

I will try to take a bit more mana regen with quick recovery after (really close cluster of our path to witch zone).

Sharing my stuff:

Spoiler

Using herald of ice and lightning too, disabled clarity cause i don't have enough mana left.

My main concern in futur will be to have enough survability. I know i will loose lot of armor from passive skill tree. Thinking about taking endurance charge from oak and passive tree (up to 5) and using cats when damage taken + immortal call + enduring cry + increased duration to make me able to tank physical damage.

For magic, i think than a good saffel's frame will do the job. With it and high level of AA, reflect should be a joke.

Forgot to thanks OP about shared us this nice build... now it's done...thanks a lot ^^ Hope we will discuss about this build to improve it and make it, maybe, build of the week ^^

Yes, this is HC Viable. With the 220% Armour and almost 160% life, you should be able to tank most anything. I'm facetanking Abaxoth spawns (not Abaxoth himself), Living Blood spawns, and all map bosses that I've done so far at level 75 and 8400 armour.

Thanks for the suggestion for using Lightning Warp + Curse on Hit + Warlord's Mark. That's a fantastic idea and I think I'm going to give that a try in the build sometime soon.

UPDATE - I've tried Curse On Hit + Warlord's Mark, and it is aweseome :) I'm going to roll that into the skill links for the original build guide. Thanks so much for the suggestion here! :)

Well Curse on hit + Warlord's mark is awesome yes :) your welcome

About your survability, how do you manage to tank spells ? You just have 75 to all resists and -60 to chaos no ?

Why not using saffel's frame to boost your defence against magic ? You don't play leech life too, you rely only on your potions and maybe 1% fire dmg is leeched on wand ?

What do you think about dropping marauder's part, and rely on CWDT + Immortal call + increased duration + enduring cry to tank physical damages ?
If you are suffering from a lot of elemental damage the +4 to max resists from Saffell's wouldn't be a terrible choice. I still think you should keep a lot of the +Armour nodes in the Marauder section. Having a lot of armour (plus the 4% Phys Reduction on Soul of Steel is amazing. It's a permanent endurance charge basically.)

EDIT - Just checked the prices for the Saffell's on the 1 month SC Torment/Bloodlines league, and you are looking at 15C-1 Exalt for the shield. I'm not sure that's keeping the build in the budget territory anymore :(

EDIT 2 - I picked up a Saffell's for some testing, and figured I'd give some more feedback now that I've actually tried it. I lost about 200 life and 3700 armour at level 78 when I did the swap, so I was a bit hesitant at first. When you are fighting bosses that are heavy on the spell damage, this item really does shine though.

Consider an elemental hit that would do 4000 damage to me (aka - kill me). That's 4000 damage after my already 75% reduction, so the initial hit(s) would have been in the 16,000 damage range. The extra 4% resistances would reduce that number to only 3360 damage, a reduction of 640 life - a better savings than the 200 life I got from my rare armour shield.

I'd definitely suggest grabbing one of these if you can afford it. Even if you just keep it in a weapon swap for the big bad bosses like Crematorium boss. A lower end Saffell's (like the one I bought) will also net you a sweet 22% spell block, which can be the difference between life and death on those elemental bosses.

A nice take on the ice nova build but I wanted to add something to your post about armor. The main reason people don't both use AA and stack armor is that they are both effective at mitigating smaller hits. On the other hand armor in high amounts can also mitigate really big hits like vaal slam/butcher slam etc. The character sheet mitigation % is only an estimate because the formula armor uses is based on the damage you take for each hit.

Effectively the main reason armor builds are the least popular is because of how expensive it is to get high armor gear compared to just going acro or eb/aa/mom. Getting armor % nodes does help in that it also buffs granite flasks so for builds that cant get eb or acro its still good for most of the content.

When I played this build to 85 in the Torment league, I found that my walking around armour value (15,000) was extremely durable. It didn't cost too much to get it that high. I think the changes made to armour in 1.3 made it a lot easier to get a respectable armour value.

AA does synergize really well with armour, but this build can't handle the incredible mana requirements associated with running AA. That's probably because pure armour gear can't roll +mana.
This build seems to be very funny.
Is it still good/possible in beta?
Nice build!

You should look for the unique amulet Atziri's Foible
High mana regenation rate while it also fixes problems of not having enough dexterity or intelligence (Apep's Rage intelligence needed is really high for a Marauder)
This way, I can manage the increased mana cost from Apep's Rage, which is a very nice addition because of the dps and the chaos damage:

Here is a link to a 2.0 skill tree. With the addition of jewel sockets, I tried to pick up a few of the easy to get ones, because jewels are going to be so awesome.

As always, any suggestions or tweaks are welcomed (if you do it nicely :))
