So? That's the price you pay for getting yourself killed in a party.

It'd also penalize zerging bosses... but then again, if GGG did get on board with a revenge mechanic, they might refrain from allowing it to apply to uniques, since they've stated that they believe zerging is a viable strategy..

True. They did make a gem called Cast on Death. Obviously they think of death lightly in standard.
What better way to zerg then to kamikaze.

Or they added cast on death for LOL pvp zerg builds. They don't think death should be taken lightly else they would have 0 penalty.

But when they made this game and the Cast on Death gem, PVP was never a big part of the community. So I doubt they Just made cast on death for PVP.

2nd) GGG is giving full incentive for players to level with Cast on death portal. The entire game, this penalty isn't really a penalty. It only starts becoming a penalty later in game with maps, when they take portals away to restrict you from having unlimited access.

I really think the "penalty" penalizes the wrong people.

The people the xp penalty penalizes most, are ggg's most dedicated players who want to get to level 100.

Lets compare the effects of changing the penalty.
Lets use the number of XP needed from 99-100 which is 317,515,914.

Now, with the 10% penalty,
A player who plays only easy maps, and never dies, needs 317,515,914 xp to level.

With a lowered 5% penalty,
A player who plays only easy maps, and never dies, needs 317,515,914 xp to level.

So really, LOWERING the penalty, will increase the SKILL required to level. Lowering the penalty will give players more incentive to do harder maps and content.

Right now the penalty takes so much time away from the player, that a person would rather lock themself in a room doing level 75 white maps, alone, grinding out the 316,515,914, instead of enjoying the leveling experience, and playing harder/fun maps while leveling.

Yes, you can play super easy content so you don't lose 10%, but is this what GGG wanted?
Or do they want the people to hit level 100, to be the players who enjoy everything about the end-game mapping system.

So either IMO:
- Increase XP from Mobs in Blue Maps, even more xp from mobs in rare maps.
This gives leveling players incentive to do maps that aren't super easy like briandead drones, and actually enjoy the maps you are playing while leveling.
OR
Lower the xp penalty for higher level players to a point where a player who is leveling, won't mind doing a little bit harder of a map which is more fun. And not risk so much time..

With the XP penalty at 10%, there is no reason for any leveling players to do anything except blue maps with +pack size. Very repetitive. But its the safest, closest to 100% deathless, map you can do.

Lets make the last 10 levels more enjoyable! We should give players more incentive to do harder maps and enjoy themselves instead of running countless hours of the same maps and mods. The 10% xp risk, made us into these blue packsize zombies.

5 deaths = 158,757,957 XP.
5 Deaths + 317,515,914.0 = 476,275,371 XP. 1.5 TIMES THE XP!! MINE AS WELL HIT 100.5

So if you risk any death what so ever, you are acknowleging that it if you die, it will take you 1.5 times the xp to hit 100. Its an obvious answer, why would i want to risk that much time and XP, lets just do a lot of easy content. Won't be fun, but I can guarentee I only need 317,516,914 xp to level. Nothing more.

Why would anyone want to do hard maps with this penalty? Its not viable.

So goetz, lets talk, I know you aren't into the whole end-game, get to lvl 100 group, but please try to put yourself in our shoes.

Yes, this is all sensible. I'm sick and tired of seeing this discussion with players who haven't experienced enough of the end-game grind to even fathom this. However, what's needed is an XP recovery system. The XP penalty never should've been nerfed in the first place because what's really needed is a form of resurrection with partial XP recovery.
