Remove xp penalty's from death
" I like your implementation and its very similar to mine. My solution to the loot problem is to let people keep loot, but make it so half of the loot drops you normally would get are reserved for when you beat the boss. The problem with Scrotie's implementation is that it is an item sink, and involuntary item sinks simply don't work in softcore PoE. (I'd elaborate but fuck posting from mobile)
I'm not sure I'd take issue with reserving a portion of drops, like gilrad's suggestion, except there are other issues that need resolved before bosses create even larger loot explosions (see Sayya's thread). Even still, loot progression isn't exactly organic in this game (it comes more in peaks or spikes.. like a stepwise function). I'd think its impact on progression could just as easily be received as more severe than exp loss, as it could be mostly ignored with little perceived consequence. Devolving Wilds

How about this then:
When you die in a map your portal becomes "flickering". In order to get back into the map you must pay 10% of your xp. Can't pay the xp, you don't get into the map. This way, it's not necessarily an item penalty while at the same time it puts a stop on "clearspeed-only MF" builds. IGN: Ikimashouka, Tsukiyattekudasai, DontCallMeMrFroyo

The solution dosnt have to be complicated or intricate.
If they absolutely insist on having a set of penalties, regardless of the point this thread was made for (that dying to something completely out of your control, desync, and paying the 10% xp penalty, plus currency, maps and valuable portals to said maps is unfair and counter-productive to a good player experience) then it should be something more forgiving for the player. We already loose a valuable portal when we die, so even if the xp penalty was removed entirely, we're still being punished (to a degree) for a death. So take away the xp drop, or give us the alternative of paying for it w/ trans orbs. -Zombie#1- "That guy has passed right over us 3 times now..shouldnt we be popping out to attack?"

" Nah, sorry. 1 trans orb is too much of a penalty. It's too expensive to lose 1 trans orb plus a valuable portal. I want to pay 1 wisdom when I die and nothing more. Why should I be punished for having a bad build? Why can't I level bad builds to 90 or higher? Game will be so much better if we didnt have to worry about dying, or getting life on gear or on tree. " Agreed. Game is designed that way to kill players on desync. If you loose 10% of xp, hours of grinding due to desync - thats only your fault, because desync is a part of gameplay, and If your build cant survive on desyncs that means your build is a crap. No matter how hard you trying to avoid desync - it will find you anyway, so if you are not building your character to be able survive any desync - you are doing it wrong!! PoE is not like other games, you cant play here how do you want, you cant play just any build you want, because you will be punished for that. are at level 87, now 69% and lost more than 70% for desync, I did at least 20 maps to the max 72, I can not find major !!!! Do something !!!! you can not map into 72 or greater to find a lot of maps only 66

" Not that I'm advocating such a thing, but it begs an interesting question. What if all the currencies had the same drop rates? How would the game look then? How would the economy look? How would player valuation of items change, especially given the preconceived and established notions of the last few years? Interesting indeed. =) |
