We're Looking For Beta Testers For VOIP Trade!

A phonecall for things like?
1"hey wtb () for 20chaos"
2"sure"
1"t4t"
2"t4t"
3 on Ts "goddamnit pls shut the fuck up"

Standard common trade chat if you do b/o and arent a shady seller takes about 10 seconds (thanks to procurement)

And in new HC leagues i would get about +50 calls a day? wow thats a lot added to my regular calls. :)
Also it will get very very annoying.
Music+Teamspeak(clan)+VOIPTrade wont be very fluid to play, you need to be sure to mute ts every time before you take the call or it will annoy the hell out of the people.

Imagine more then 1-3 ppl on a 10slot or even more! server do this. Its an instant hell of a mess.
push2talk is the only way to avoid that situatíons, but i would never use it in HC, since i have already mapped all buttons reachable.
-So you mute ts
-in HC you better get to town meanwhile
-press media pause button on keyboard to mute music
-get your phone
-take the call
Meanwhile without voip i already traded in most cases, before i can even pick up the phone.

The only difference is i need to stop my music and ts communications for talking to a stranger, who i probably cannot understand with his accent. So the call will be very painful too. And i need my phone or another VOIP Tool to make that even possible.

I wish your project the best, the idea would be kinda interesting, but i guess its the wrong place because its a hacknslay and f2p game.
Most people are annoyed of trading anyways, since it takes time you could level meanwhile.
So there is not much love for chitchat and communication with the "community".
Trash and mean ppl like f2p because they can abuse the community with new accounts all the time and have not to pay for it.
Its not really party compatible and i guess +75% hear other then poe music in the backround too. Still its an interesting idea!

Forced to focus on the phone instead of the game wont work for the crowd.
Guess thats the strongest no reasons for me too right now.
Maybe it will help you a bit to find solutions for this.

IDK why people in this game are so against voice comms. I've heard every excuse. When I've tried to get some in my guild to get on Teamspeak or Vent, they make up stuff like: some people may not speak English, it's too hard to set up, it'll eat my bandwidth, everyone knows what to do in PoE maps so no need, don't have a mic, etc. What bullshit! I think it's because some people want to hide behind the keyboard instead of interacting by talking, and/or are just too damned lazy to set up voice.

Excuses.... Really? My computer IS crap. I DO NOT have a mic. Teamspeak DOES crash my computer (doesn't like my audio driver). I DO NOT have headphones. With children around I cannot exclude the outside world by wearing headphones. With child around I would need to wear headphones to police the voice chat.

Not excuses. Legitimate facts.

It would be nice to exclude the outside world when I get a chance to play, but that is not reality.

They might be facts, but "legitimate" is another thing. You can get a cheap mic for around $10.00, maybe less. There are several other VOIP's beside TS - like Axon, Vent, Mumble, Raidcall, Skype; I find it hard to believe that all of them would conflict your audio driver (maybe you should update the driver?). You don't need 'phones, since for example I play through speakers but if you're so afraid your kids might hear an off-color remark (I too have a daughter), then you may have to keep them away from society until they're of-age - including TV, radio, online, and school. Blah, blah, blah.

As to other posters and the language issue: if someone doesn't speak your language then they can have their own channel, or perhaps they just won't be able to talk with certain other people but that shouldn't prevent most people that probably speak English from having a voice option.

Again, the same lame excuses for people that sound like they're either 1. lazy or, 2. anti-social re in-game chat.

Get over it!

Again, the same lame conclusions from people who either 1. don't know the difference between antisocial and asocial or, 2. are just antisocial themselves.

Get it right!
Casually casual.

There's one question that you forgot to ask yourself:
What benefit to the user does voice communication provide over text?

Analyze the current system; identify the paradigms involved; abstract them and boil them down to the core problem that's trying to be solved (and hopefully have a solution)

The age-old method of recursively asking yourself "Why?" always helps.

What?

What?

...

What?

No this isn't a smart idea, but where are the security flaws?
The security flaw is that the VOIP connections will be peer-to-peer. In other words, the person you're talking to will know your IP address, if they know how to get it (not hard).

this is true. it's the same problem a lot of pvp games have lately where people are getting ddosed after getting their IP read through Skype

that aside though - why the heck do we need this? I would never bother using something like this. Adding useless steps to a process only makes it worse.

That was always one of my main complaints about Skype, and someone must host the call, and is a bit of a resource hog. You can set up a proxy but it's a pain in the ass, most people didn't bother. The best thing about Skype was that it was default not push-to-talk but still I hated it. Skype wasn't meant for gaming anyway but started to be used because a lot of people already had it installed.

Which is why I used Dolby Axon in WoW rated pvp when possible. No way the other guy can get your IP, and just much better than Skype or Vent overall.
