We're Looking For Beta Testers For VOIP Trade!

Good afternoon everyone!

My name is Elemenopy and I am the lead developer for a utility site that is growing day by day. We will be implementing a VOIP (Voice Over IP) system that will allow players to search an indexer website of all items across both Original & Garena systems and if they find an item they like they will be able to 'Click To Dial' and speak immediately to the other party (should that party be accepting incoming calls). This VOIP solution respects time zones / language limitations per user / DND (Do Not Disturb) / Voicemail and the other common features you are used to seeing (call waiting etc etc). This will allow users to transcend past the usual hunt -> click -> pm in game etc etc and is intended to bypass clumsy setups like Mumble / Skype (which not everyone has). It will be integrated into future releases in any direction that GGG chooses to go regarding trade. Initially we have Amazon EC2 servers being setup in the North American region and also the South East Asia regions so we can cater to all areas on earth. This is a great feature since it allows a potential personal touch to trade and allows us to come together as a community and potentially even make new friends while delivering even more exposure to the core game itself. The app does not have to solely be used in terms of trade and is intended at it's foundation to simply transcend the gap of all of the different types of VOIP platforms. Calls are free to every user so you have nothing to lose!

We are looking for beta testers of our initial release to handle connecting to and placing calls between parties and testing general functionality concerns. This initial release will be done solely on Android devices to begin with though we have IOS (iPhone / iPad) code ready for the most part. The testing will be done with our own internal testers handling all international calls (North America to Taiwan for example). We need testers who can work with North America to Europe for instance. Or even just NA to NA.

We understand that trade can be better and we are trying to get this to the point where we can reach out and touch someone with a single click. It likely will develop into many other possible ideas but for now we want to get the VOIP trade app out and available to people as soon as possible.

**Language Preference
**Timezone
**Geographic Location (We don't want your street address just a general idea)
**Availability to test
**Any other technical related skills you may have

We appreciate your participation as we undertake this task and are looking forward to literally "hearing from you".

Yours,
-Elemenopy

Ah man. On paper this idea sounds really cool. But I would be terrified of using this app.

Just from using VOIP programs of many types over many years, (Integrated Game VOIP, Curse Voice, Skype/Mumble/Ts3/Vent), the types of negativity that one can experience can be extreme even in the seemingly peaceful contexts.

Now take something like PoE trade, which has some fairly negative players (my opinion here for sure but I think a lot would agree), and then imagine having to talk to them over VOIP? If you browse Reddit, you have seen the 'douchebag trader' type posts with the way people act.

Now imagine that shit on VOIP?

I'd NEEEEEEEEVER want to put up with that shit. And if my experience with players in Guilds is anything similar to the people I'd talk to over VOIP, then I'm even more like "Fuck that shit" x10.

I say all this because I think a 3rd party chat system would be 100x better. Hell, even if you had that alongside the VOIP, that would be pretty sweet where you could use the chat but not the VOIP. But GGG already plans to implement that with the future trading system so I don't even know if it would be worth the time creating that.

Anyway, good luck finding testers!

Ahhh you touched on a great subject. So we are going to be adopting a similar practice like ebay to help combat abuse. Users will be able to grade / report +1 or -1 against others. A threshold exists to filter out users who are blatant spammers / abusers so we will protect you from unwanted people by default :) The mechanics used to protect everyone are sophisticated and will be implemented at the very first release. We understand abuse happens and we take care to protect everyone involved. Great question / statement though! Also a chat system is already in the works and is a great alternative for our mobile crowd or people who simply don't want to reach out and touch someone.

Also on the books is skill tree discussion and ways to help newer players via actual voice communication. We are currently signed up for the passive tree beta program at this time.

My first thought is: it's about time someone did this. It is sorely needed.

IDK why people in this game are so against voice comms. I've heard every excuse. When I've tried to get some in my guild to get on Teamspeak or Vent, they make up stuff like: some people may not speak English, it's too hard to set up, it'll eat my bandwidth, everyone knows what to do in PoE maps so no need, don't have a mic, etc. What bullshit! I think it's because some people want to hide behind the keyboard instead of interacting by talking, and/or are just too damned lazy to set up voice.

Destro - while I understand your point to an extent, I also know that sure, you'll get your random asshat sometimes but they can be dealt with whether it's a regular team/group or a pug or trade. IMO good communication outweighs any of that. It's a no-brainer.

I can tell you that having played other games like WoW or TF2 for years with voice, and to a limited extent PoE with it, things go MUCH easier when in a group or team, for trade, and for higher-level play voice comm is essential. In PoE it would certainly help trade and gameplay goes much smoother as well.

Seriously, it's almost 2015 and we're still TYPING in games? That's so goddamned dumb it's pathetic!

@ Elemenopy - I don't use a smart phone. I'd like to see a good VOIP system implemented in PoE. Until then, I'll continue to use one of the many options I already have - Dolby Axon, Teamspeak, Raidcall, Mumble, Vent, Skype.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond and it's welcomed by the entire team :) We are simultaneously developing Windows / OSX / IOS apps as well for people who don't like smart phones. We have a very gifted set of people on our team who can carry this across all platforms and we will do our absolute best to make sure this happens. After we tackle some initial versions on mobile we will very quickly begin releasing desktop app's for Windows XP->Windows8.1 and also OSX apps as well. Since we manage the voice gateways we can deploy on top of any platform you guys want and do it in reasonable build time. This game has meant so much to us all and we just want to do anything we can to try and somehow give back in the only way we know how to :) Thank you again for taking the time to respond and I hope to 'talk' to you soon!

Very cool, and if you need testers for Win XP Pro64, I'm in. Yeah I know it's old but it's really Server 2003 and works well for me.

I'd like to see this work out nicely. Good luck with the endeavor!
Sounds cool it use and I would try it out. Why not just make it public so everyone and test it right away?

Also only in path of exile someone would make a serious program were you have a hotline to purchase and barter your virtual items.
I don't even like having to deal with traders in-game half the time, and you want us to call them? LOL, i think not sorry
IGN:Axe_Crazy
Yeah , no.

Seeing has how traders are in poe I wouldn't like to put up with this shit over the phone. and a large portion of poe players are non native english speaker, I can see a lot of people not using it because of the language barrier.

I wouldn't imagine having to deal with low-ballers calling me in real life all the time.

even if their is a ebay style rating what stopping people for just making a new account with a fresh rating seeing as this is a f2p game. I can't see this turning out great
