Would you say this is Hardcore viabele with some adaptions? I am looking for a budget-ish spec to start the next league with and this one looks fun. But obviously I would trade some DPS for survivability.

I'd say it is, yea. Just gotta play a little less recklessly and maybe go for some more life nodes. Otherwise it just faces the same challenges every other melee build faces.

How do you feel about crit DW Cleave with the same tree?

It seems like it would have crazy single target DPS since they buffed it back up a bit but I guess Cyclone has better mobility (damage while moving) and therefore a better clear speed. I suppose another point of going Cyclone swords is to get that awesome AoE that thrusting swords allow. Going Cleave, however, allows you to drop BM for leech on gear or the Mind Drinker node so you can throw in something like Multistrike since Cleave needs it. Cleave is pretty much better than Dual Strike + Melee Splash now that the dual-wielding damage effectiveness of Cleave was buffed and you can slap on Inc AoE/Conc Effect which Dual Strike can't use. But Cyclone also has stun immunity while skating so it's pretty sturdy and deals more consistent damage in that sense.

As you can see I'm pretty conflicted. I really want Cleave to make a comeback but it seems like everyone else prefers Cyclone for DW melee builds like this one and the ol' BoR-WoE.

I really wanted cleave to make a comeback too and that was kindof my intention when starting this character. The reality of it though is that cyclone is just better in every way. I feel more mobile, safer, better dps and on top of that it's easier to make effective.

With this build a large problem with any other skill is the having to stand still and attack part which can often get you smashed by chargers and heavy hitters. Cyclone you're essentially always on the move and are immune to stun while doing it so even against chargers the chance are good you hit them before their charge actually hits and they do no damage.

I tried a lot of skills and in the end couldn't justify any of them over cyclone.

Also, having tested both Cleave and Reave, Reave is just simply superior in terms of AoE/clear speed. Might show more tooltip on Cleave but tooltip is misleading in this case (as is the case with many skills).

Reave does not strike with both weapons simultaneously. Cleave does. Reave does have a better clear speed but going dual-wield Reave doesn't really make too much sense outside of the DW bonus. The reason why DW Cyclone works well is because you can't be stunned while attacking so the sacrifice in defense isn't too bad. Cleave also suffers from the same problem as Reave in this regard which was discussed above. It does have superior DW single-target/small-mob-cluster DPS to these skills but it's lacking severely in AoE and you are vulnerable to stuns so the clear speed is pretty shit. I'm just nostalgic from the ol' DW Ele Cleave days.

Yea I've done a few of them. As for hard hitting stuff, there's no magic strategy that I use. Just spin through things directly and hit them before they hit you which will either be a crit and kill them or hit and stun them. Nothing, even the big harder hitting mobs seem to 1 shot me so as long as I don't get 1 shot it's perfectly fine and I'll go on living. I rarely if ever die to hard hitters.

I have played this build to 82 now, and it's damn fun. The only problem I have is the helm. It's causing me to get one shot. I have 49% evade and a little armor, but there are defiantly mobs you need to know about, like the colonnade boss for instance , or any phys damage mob that has a powerful crits mod. I am not rich , but have stacked as much life on my gear as I can afford. AT 82 I have 4400ish, it isn't enough , that abysus will get you one shot.

Other than that it works great, just be prepared to lose some exp. and don't fight hard hitting phys mobs on hardcore.
Build is working great, able to do Atziri at level 80, slightly slow but doable. At around 35k dps not quite sure how you are able to get 60k+ But otherwise the build is great, I rarely die and just wreck maps.

My Gear
Spoiler
is this build still doable if i swap out a rapier for a soul taker?
What came first Mcdonalds or KFC?
