1.3 ✮ The Crit DoT Chin Sol build ✮ Puncture Trap / Ice Shot (Build of the Week S3E3)

I must admit this guide is informative and the end result is a lot of fun.

Unfortunately the whole
"
The total cost with two 5L's should be no more than 7-10ex, even in temporary leagues.
is a complete joke. In the Standard league the 5Link Chin-Sol goes for 5-10ex alone, the helmet is another 5ex. The entire budget build is maybe 5-10 times his estimate, but that's not his fault. Inflation is a b....

I have been REALLY lucky with my drops this week, and I do mean really lucky. I managed to get a Unique Maraketh bow to drop and it turned out to be a Chin-Sol, and a couple of other things have been dropping for me which have really helped.

I have not bought any of my gear, except for the skill gems. So in total I've spent about 10-20 chaos on skill gems. I am by no means rich at all. I have about 20 chaos and I've never even seen an Exalted drop in all the time I've played. I've never even owned a Exalted lol.

However, these are my gears and so far I've been able to cruise through most of the maps. My Lightning resistance is too low though, but am unable to add 20-25% Lightning resist to my quiver for some reason :S

Gears:

At the moment my Ice-Shot does about 7,000 DPS. I wish I had the courage, and the resources, to try and 5 link the Chin-Sol, but I don't unfortunately.

Please don't crap on OP before doing research, especially if you're new to the game. There are several 5L Chin sols for 2-3ex on Standard (http://poe.trade/search/ahukahiabasika), and at the very worst case scenario, you can use Vorici's recipe which costs 150 fuses (3.5 ex on standard - 2.5ex in rampage). There are also many decent 5L assassin's garbs available for 1-2 ex on standard. Again, worst case scenario is you buy a white 5L armor for ~5c and spam chaos on it. You're bound to get something decent (70life+70resist) in 50 tries or less.
Do you mind me asking what your death count is? I'm doing this build on beyond, and I've tweeked it a bit, and instead of belly I am running Lightning Coil. I know the lightning damage is terrible for this build but I feel its the only way I can survive in beyond. Even messaging me would work, I'm just looking for some extra knowledge on this build, I was following your build 100% 6L chin sol/ 6L belly and died to a Dsync Koll smash in a colonade, no extra dmg map mods....I would just like to know if You die alot in the league you're in.

As one who played this build, i can tell you this is a squishy build, its dangerous all around, BUT thats the fun of it. It makes you move around more, be quick on your feet and needs quick judgement of your surroundings to survive. Its fun, more fun then other builds i played with yet frustrating at times. Also, Kole Smash is like THE HULK's Smash.. hurts like a B****.

There's half a dozen 5L Chin Sols for 3ex, and the helm runs for 2-3 chaos...

poe.xyz.is / poe.trade

At the bottom, be sure to check "buyout" and then click the currency to list it in order. Even without the 5L, the bow is only 1 fuse or 1 chaos. Then, save up fusings and 5L it yourself via Vorici.

Belly of the Beast 5L is also 3ex, ~2 chaos if you wanted to buy an unlinked one amd save up the 150 fusings again.

The build is cheap. No mandatory 6L, and you really need the one 5L to perform exceptionally well in high level maps.
I have a question about the Three Dragon unique items effect: cold damage now ignites but cannot chill or freeze.

Does chance to ignite passive skill: 5% chance to ignite adds to the chance to ignite?

If it does, it is wise to invest in it ? There is one node in the shadow area that can be easily reached with just 2 points....
I just wanted to ask ... should i go for 6L first on my belly and chin or invest into the amulet (Voll's Devotion)
Wanted to stop by to say hey, thanks a whole lot for this wonderful build. From theory to practice, the execution has proven flawless. After a lot of hard work, my gear melts Atziri and all her minions in single shots. Huge DPS admirable in parties and capable of destroying the strongest of bosses and enemies in said parties. Another example of how Three Dragons is OP by being massively build enabling.

My one problem with it is that this build is the squishiest I've ever played.

One false step, one second of lag, one strongbox, and it's all over. I've lost tons of XP from deaths at the 80+ level.

Elemental reflect (and physical reflect, actually) is terrifying, and I'm uncertain if I should replace one of my gems on my Belly with life leech and aim for Vaal Pact, or if I should go on with simply being careful to Puncture trap elemental reflect rares, seeing as how my reflected damage might be too great for even life leech to handle. Can anyone who has tested Vaal Pact ON THIS BUILD tell me if it's any use against reflect?

Hard hitters are also scary. If I can't approach to throw traps without dying, it becomes difficult. Of course, with enough DPS, those problems are solved, because dead enemies can't hit you (except for Volatile Blood, ouch).

My bow is especially helpful in regard to increasing crit and DPS. If you're having problems with this build, I recommend that you do the following:

1). If it's a question of survivability, get more HP on your gear and some HP nodes to support that. With about 3k HP on my end, I have just enough to take a single large hit, and that's all I need, because the enemy won't hit me again.

2). Focus on building crit chance and crit multiplier. This is a build based on dealing critical hits: you will not deal good damage with regular hits.

If you can't use Romira's/prefer not to use it, look into ways of sustaining Power Charges, possibly with an Assassin's Mark/Curse on Hit/Power Charge on Critical/some easy attack skill. Look into getting +max power charges. I use Romira's, so I have no problem with charge generation.

Offense and careful positioning is the best defense with this build. You'll never be tanky, but you can at least kill the enemy.

3). Leech is mandatory. You have no real life regen, and your MP regen will be wimpy. Get both types of leech on some rings, or your amulet, or through gems. In practice, I can sustain Ice Shot with just the leech from Romira's, so dedicating one ring to that purpose helps.

i havnt gone for atziri just yet with my ranger. but i use life leech in my belly 5L and i still do more than enough damage on crits. got SUPER lucky today and had a drillneck drop :D
for boxes it's a very good idea to have a smoke mine on hand. it's a VERY underated skill and is very good at keeping me alive.

i am using Vaal pact with the leech gem and it works so beautifully. i think i died once to reflect on a crit, against double reflect , with a pierce arrow on a very big group. but i havnt died to reflect sinse then and my gear is improving. VERY WORTH GETTING VAALPACT with this build. The stress relief of being able to off screen stuff and not wonder if it's reflect make it a lot more enjoyable to play.
Hey man really Nice and OP Build :p ... I just took down Atziri Twice on Rampage. Farily Easy, only thing that got me was the Ball Lightning from Dual Vaal. Trio was super easy and Atziri too.

Im only lvl 83. My tree and Gear:
