IIRC Herald of Ash is a buff that affects your own attacks only. It does not affect traps, because the trap is making the attack, not you (same reasoning as why leech and reflect don't affect you with traps).

The chin sol MORE mod will work with a trap, because the trap is essentially firing the attack with the chin sol.

Also a 500pdps bow would easily be on par with Chin Sol even before the crit. Chin Sol is about 250pdps, but you sacrifice the 100% MORE multiplier to get double the base damage, making it effectively the same. A small bonus is: puncture from the trap can still pierce (50% chance from tree + drillneck), you are actually looking at consistent damage across anything it hits, rather than decreasing damage as it gets further away. This is only a benefit for fast moving bosses or multiple bosses.

it says 100% more bow damage. not 100% increased physical bow damage.


bow damage includes all damage dealt with bows and is not increased %, its a multipler

so how much damage does that 100% more give in comparison with higher flat dps.

Aye, it is not directly +100% base damage for the more multiplier. I did say "effectively". With the gear outlined, you are looking at about 300-310 dps from weapon and flat modifiers, which is your effective "base" damage. This is then modified by increased, more, etc.

So: 305 base x (1 + Increased mods[tree, added fire, etc]) x More mods [WED, PB, PPD, etc] x 2 [Chin Sol].
You could really move the x2 from Chin Sol anywhere, it wouldn't actually affect it. You are right in that Chin Sol also affects the added fire (from itself) which I didn't take into account. Chin Sol effectively has 610 base dps (Before Increased mods, and before More mods other than it's own PB mechanic).

So the question really comes down to: Is the extra crit % on a 500 pdps bow worth 20% base damage? If yes, then the bow should come out on top. If no, then Chin Sol can stay.
I don't believe Herald of Ash is in this build for Puncture Trap. Herald of Ash is for Ice Shot. That's why you wear the Three Dragons.
When it comes to budget, you can't beat Chin Sol's value. Yes, a 500 pDPS crit bow will beat it (heck, a 400+ pDPS bow comes close when you factor in Ice Shot), but those cost at least 10 ex compared to Chin Sol's 5 chaos.

The beauty of this build is you can melt 75+ maps and Atziri with less than a few ex worth of gear (if you don't get a Drillneck which is entirely optional).

I'm not entirely sure about this build's mechanics - would you prefer chin sol to this bow?

Herald of ash won't work , but added fire and hatred should work . The "more" multiplier from chin sol seems to be working for both , how else is atziri dying in two punctures?

The shadow starting nodes are a lot better than the ranger starting nodes.

Instead of the trap damage nodes, go for physical damage / bow damage nodes because Puncture is really only used for bosses. 90% of the time spent in maps is clearing trash packs and Ice Shot AOE + Herald of Ash already melt rare mobs in packs. Phys damage / bow damage nodes buff all your damage.

For the 30% Pierce node, you can take the shorter way around the ring (takes 1 fewer skill point) because Pierce gem with quality gives you 73% pierce (20 quality = +15% pierce).

I personally find 3k life too low to avoid getting 1 shot by unavoidable damage / desync. Remember, losing 10% exp at level 95+ is many hours of wasted time. You can't win ladder if you die even as rarely as once a day, but if you don't care about hitting level 100 you can swap the life nodes for more damage nodes.

Can someone share some insight on crit % for puncture and iceshot? I'm sitting at 20% atm and I feel like getting the crit nodes is a big waste.
can anyone build a low budget version or at least a version tht will run 15-30 30-55?

dont know what to get till i can afford all the uniques :x
Seems like a great and fun build. Hope it can be made to work with less than listed gear. Only the drillneck is over 6 exalted orb...
