I just received a reply from Mark explaining the exact nature of point blank. It seems that it will be very useful for molten strike, improving 1/3 of the balls by 50% and the other 2/3 by a linear 50% --> 30% since each unit of distance from 10 to 35 decreases damage by 2%.

i'm just gonna say, your data is a little skewed, 100k tool tip dps doesn't translate into 60% x 100k for each of the balls

you have to take into account the melee nodes and multi strike's melee phys buff as the gem levels up.

there's a spreadsheet somewhere to calculate the real value of the projectiles though

I recently sold the 6L chest I was using to pay for a 6L Lightning Coil on another character. Unfortunately, I need BBB on it, or I'd just color temporarily for the molten striker and take a screen shot of tooltip DPS. If I grab any other 6L that can easily get those colors before league ends, I'll use it. Otherwise, I'll just wait for league since I have a good 6L chest waiting for him in standard.

The kraken shelter chest is one I crafted last league and is worth 150+ exalts. The other one would be better to get. When I sold it 2 weeks ago, it was about 16 exalts. It'll probably go up some because we're almost in standard. As for being able to survive, try taking off abyssus until you are higher level and can better deal with the higher damage taken from physical hits. Abyssus gives a lot of damage, but it also makes it a lot harder to take physical hits. If you don't want to get a 6L chest, another possible option is to get a BoR instead.

I am also in the process of thinking up a new version of the build that has more survivability. I know the current one has some issues in this area, but the main reason I wanted to do this build was to show how ridiculous Doryani's Catalysts can be for melee, not just spell casting.
