Vaal Gem Soul Charges need QoL improvements
Soul Charges don't appear to be consistent at all. I'm running three different vaal gems in normal at the moment. When I kill a pack of mobs, each of the gems has a different total of souls stored.
Killing blue or rare mobs don't give more charges Killing mobs while in a party doesn't give more charges Both of these things need to be fixed. As of right now I'm playing solo just so I can actually use my Vaal Spectral Throw with LMP. This thread has been automatically archived. Replies are disabled.

Agreed. Normally I'd say this complaint is beating a dead horse but this was a pretty obvious issue and I'm surprised it got through QA. There's a lot of ways GGG could balance VS without encouraging cheesy low level soul reaping. Resetting on instance change should not be one.
edit: I should temper the above with my supreme regard and praise for the introduction of Vaal Skills as a mechanic. They're great and they could be that much greater if this small issue were resolved. I love Vaal Spectral Throw, it is amazing. The other Vaal Gems I have used are all really awesome looking and I love the idea of having charge up skills. There's just some inconsistencies with the way the Vaal Gems function at the moment. Inconsistent with the way charges are gained for flasks which was very surprising for me. I would think they wouldn't make these same mistakes and would just apply the QoL improvements that went to flasks for grouping and harder mobs.

" When I tried using 3 gems it looked like the souls acquired were split between the 3 gems. In other words if you killed 3 mobs and had 3 gems, each gem would get 1 soul charge. The charge differences iirc were very patterned and predictable, just try mousing over the charges after you kill every mob to get a confirmed test, I didn't look into it too much as I just decided one gem was enough. my evasion is so high i only insta rip sometimes
----- Bug Fixes: People were using cyclone for actual melee builds, so we nerfed it and made blade vortex. Also, we went ahead and made cyclone great for CoC casters while we were at it. |

I tried several things with those vaal gems and i can't find any solution regarding the charge system. I sometimes can use two vaal cyclone in a row and sometimes i finish the area way before it s charged.
Maybe we reached the point at where rng dictate the right to be able to use skills :( Maker of ZeeL's Amplifier.

Running multiple gems, each kill only grants 1 soul. This means it can only charge 1 gem.
So it seems its best 'in general' to run only one vaal skill gem at a time |

" Does the charge get randomly distributed between gems then ? Cause on 64 soul gems, i sometime shad a 15/20 soul difference, without any consistency Maker of ZeeL's Amplifier.

" I do think this might be the case, though actual testing would be needed to confirm it. I agree souls should be shared among members in a party though, as there obviously won't be as many to go around. For the blue or rare mobs idk, maybe they should give more soul charges. my evasion is so high i only insta rip sometimes ----- Bug Fixes: People were using cyclone for actual melee builds, so we nerfed it and made blade vortex. I had inconsistent soul gains as well where I would have 7/32 and 13/64 on two different gems. It looks like it is randomly assigning souls to gems when running multiple Vaal Gems.
I took off my other Vaal Gems and only used Vaal Spectral Throw and it gets a soul with every kill now. Pretty disappointing that you have to use a single Vaal Gem if you want to be able to actually use it. |

" I do think this might be the case, though actual testing would be needed to confirm it.[/quote]The soul is assigned to a random (non-full) vaal skill. "In a party, each nearby party member gets a soul from each kill, regardless who makes it, with the same radius used for flask charges and experience. |
