Used vaal orb and nothing happens

Then i think thats where your friend messed up. Had the gem been 20% already, it would have been at 43.

I think what SneakyPaw is trying to say is it's best to corrupt your gems when their already 20/20.

I highly doubt it. I think there's a 23% hard cap quality for corrupted gems. And there's also probably a cap of 23% on the increased quality you can get on a gem. So, if you get 23% increased quality from corruption and you're already at 20% quality, the result would be 23%.

I think we should assume such hard cap on gem quality (23%) until someone link a gem with more than 23% quality.

Bug Fixes:
Fixed a problem that would allow a 0% quality gem to reach 23% quality with one Vaal Orb.

So I think it looks like the game set the gem to max quality in error, and this wouldn't happen again ...
