Hi,
This is my first char and playthrough of PoE. Didn't know about the game and stumbled on it on Steam. Am just getting back into gaming after a long spell. Played a block-type gladiator. First impressions: great game, interesting enough story, had character and I had some great highs and lows - mostly the lows through deaths and 'learning' the mechanics of the game. Played Legacy League as wanted to experience the fullness of the different leagues that had happened before - this was great, enjoyed the leaguestones, the Challenges, the diff aspects. Later impressions: Why the HELL is there no Auction House, or *something* that works, for trading? Before more experienced players get on their high horse, I've read the AH threads, I've read the fors and againsts, and so forth. I'm aware of the alleged issues. RMT exists with PoE, regardless, just as it does with WoW, Diablo, etc. etc. etc. Bots exist. Not having an AH doesn't magically make those problems go away. (1)The main gripe is that as someone who is new to the game and forming networks, firstly, if something isn't on PoE trade I often have no idea whether I'm getting a bargain or being completely scammed. The trade chat channels are constantly full of people with ridiculously over-priced stuff, which doesn't work. The central problem though is that in some respects I may as well be playing SSF, because it's usually impossible to find some gear, or maps that I need - everyone is AFK or in a lab or can't be arsed actually trading. And so the game got to a point where I had almost run out of maps and run out of content. Proposed solution: There needs to be *some* kind of workable system where you can trade offline, set buyouts, etc. The current system doesn't work for me and judging from Global chats, even 820, a LOT of other people are experiencing the same problem - they can't get what they need because people aren't there, or people aren't trading, even if they've listed on PoE trade. If you have stalled progress in a game, then eventually you'll do what I'm doing, and quit. (2) Maps became a real grind round about Tier 10 or so - the story has dropped away, and it's basically load map, put on some modifiers, is this survivable - probably - run it, and hope that other maps drop, because otherwise you're screwed. Use-able loot pretty much stopped happening after Maps started, and it was an endless grind of chaos recipes or hopefully selling some of the decent stuff. Mostly people don't want anything but GG gear and so you have sweet FA to offer, and there's little currency to be had. Yes, there's a tiny amount of Zana story and that in Maps, but there's little continuity or story at this point and so it becomes a real grind. Proposed solution: more story, more interaction, more sense of progress and some kind of tiered loot system and so forth. I've played other games like WoW, EverQuest, Diablo II and that over the years, and what they all had was a decent sense of progression. PoE seems more like a lottery - you have a one in bajillion chance of something cool happening, and otherwise it's just keep hitting the slot machine and hope that HH, Shavs, or some of the very rare useable stuff drops, otherwise you're not interested and not only that, no-one else is interested in it either. In any of those other games, I was never a top tier player, however, I knew that if I moved from one boss up to the next, or from one expansion of the game to Wrath of the Lich King, say, then things would move along and my gear would get better. There was a coherent sense of progression. This is not the case in PoE. With PoE, not only with the maps having SFA useful stuff, but also with the completely messed up trading system, this is doubly messed around, and so it didn't work for me. There are players that are OK with that, great, keep playing. I'm quitting because these issues aren't being resolved, they're long-standing, and because other games already have solutions in place. I wish GGG all the best and thank you for the experience. You've got some great strengths in this game, it is really cool. And from my perspective it also needs adjusting. Also, I played a life build, and had I known that people could essentially laugh their way through the later 'challenges' because they chose ES, I would have run a HoWa or similar. This balance needs addressing and I hope Oriath does this for the community. It's difficult enough being a casual player, then learning that melee/life builds are second-class citizens and that with certain ES builds and gear you don't have to worry about the mechanics and 'challenges' of certain fights. |

i have always bought supporter packs and with that always got beta opt-in until the last supporter pack, so didn't buy that pack.
Ur to late now, poe disappointed me in thinking streamers give more bug reports and help you better. So ye bye bye, not spending another penny on this game that doesnt treat people the same, i hope the streamers will destroy the game just like they did D3 |

When I first tried the game I did not like it at all.
The reason for it was that I tried hardcore, and had no idea the potions refilled as you kill enemies. Played the witch, and trying to save the potions, and playing ultra careful I still died before reaching the town. That is when I decided that this game design was silly, and I did not try to play again for a long time. The next time I tried (more than a year later) I wanted to play diabloIII and somehow tried POE again. This time around I tried a marauder and I got to town using one of the potions once, and to my surprise it filled up in town,.. so I was pleasantly surprised that they will fill up in town. I was still confused as to why I could not stack the potions, and was pleasantly surprised when later I realized that I will never loose a potion if it ran out, and that they recharge when you kill enemies. I got into act2, I think about lvl23, and that is when suddenly my life dipped very quickly with certain enemies. I could not figure out what the reason was for this, and asked in chat if anyone could help me. People swore at me for trying to get free things, where I was asking for advice on what to do since I almost die the whole time. Much later in the game I now understand that it was because I have went purely offensive and used energy shield items since I liked the mechanic, but that the mobs doing chaos damage was what did the most damage to me. I Was scared to die, and trying once more to ask for help I was swore at again, and decided o well - lets try and do this - and got killed by weaver. I quit the game after that and felt very discouraged because I was trying to inform people that I can see that I am going to die and I need some help, and then I died. Time has passed again and I retried the game, but this time I tried standard. I was so hesitant to ask for advice, but as soon as I did, I was overwhelmed by people that tried to help me and they were so friendly. Since then I have been addicted to the game, and the thing that helped me stay is the positive feedback from the standard community. So in short. My first impression was not good due to the lack of knowledge and the community. My lasting impressions are good because I gained knowledge and the community. |

Hi,
I was introduced to this game by my friend who played diablo 3. I decided to try out this game since it was free and it was on steam. Another reason would be that I found the new campaign mode on Dota 2 quite fun, and was interested in other alternatives. I started my first char 2 weeks ago and am currently a lvl 61 occultist at merciless difficulty. My first impressions What I liked: 1) The skills could be changed improved through the usage of additional support gems, providing some sort of customisation. 2) The talent tree allowed for personalisation of builds. At least to an extent, freedom of builds. 3) The lore and the voice overs were quite nice. 4) The boss fights, especially act 3 piety. That boss stage was great to look at and pleasant to fight in. The gold color scheme was visually appealing. Piety able to transform into different forms, which provided an interesting and varied fights. What I disliked: 1) The ascendancy labyrinth. 2) It is mostly a single player experience with the option for co-op. There wasnt really much interaction with other people in towns. 3) It appears to be quite laggy at certain times of the day, which could make it unplayable. |

Hello! A friend suggested this game after I described what I like most about other games. He was right, this game's mechanics are probably the best I've ever seen. I'm not personally a fan of the costly re-roll I've read about, but otherwise it seems top notch.
Very sadly, I won't actually continue to play. My wife can't stand the early game gore and I've read it gets a LOT worse. Combine that with my son usually wanting to watch what I play.. this just isn't going to happen. I've played many games with realistic violence, rough language, etc.. but this is overly gorey just for the sake of being overly gorey. I know that appeals to some, but I'm just totally not in that niche. Playing a game that has your opponent's skull blast into tiny pieces when you get a headshot? I'm cool with that, truly. Having every single strike of your weapon throw 4 gallons of blood across the screen? Eh.. I know other games usually have a toggle for the extra gore, but this game goes as far as to have "extra gore" as an item enhancement.. so I'm guessing the toggle concept just isn't going to happen. I'm not saying this goes against my religion or something equally absurd. I'm not saying to enjoy this game means you also must enjoy stomping kittens. I'm just frustrated to see a game so awesome, but I could only play while my family is asleep. So for first impression? This seems like the game I've dreamed of, mixed in with an absurdly comical amount of blood/guts that will keep me from ever actually playing it. If nothing else, I'm glad this game exists even if I don't get the chance to play. Last edited by Mythics#6436 on Jul 2, 2017, 9:33:53 AM

" Because GGG hates, with the burning passion of the Hun, the idea of an AH. They have said numerous times that it isn't going to happen. We can hope and pray to the almighty Kuduku |°°| that they improve trade, but at this point poe.trade is our best option. There was a point in time that it was only trade chat *shudders*. Trust me, the playerbase feels the pain of this, just look through the feedback and suggestion forum, there are many AH posts, but for now it is what it is. Glad to have you on board with this game though, see you around. “ I'm going to build my own Wraeclast with blackjack and hookers. In fact forgot about Wraeclast and the blackjack. " Well it's cool that even though you don't like that aspect you still appreciate the game for what it is. Maybe someday they will add that option and you will get to play it through. I understand that having a kid watching (as well as just some people don't like being exposed to) means the gore can be too much, even if many of us can pass it off as no big. Good feedback. Thanks for giving it a shot. “ I'm going to build my own Wraeclast with blackjack and hookers. In fact forgot about Wraeclast and the blackjack. Ah screw the whole thing. ” - Exile Bender

" **spoiler tag used in quote to reduce space use on page** Welcome! Many of the 'likes' you listed are things I love about PoE, especially skill customization. I have been a long time fan of dungeon crawler/hack-n-slash games, with the most favorite titles being Baulders Gate: Dark Allians and Champions of Norrath, Return to Arms. PoE feels like a spiritual successor to those classics. As for your dislikes, many in the community share the dislike for the ascendancy lab. There is a huge expansion that is looking to be released in August, with a closed beta currently running. Within that expansion they are doing some reworks of the lab, mainly shortening it in the first couple of labs. It's something they put a lot of time and resources into developing so I honestly do not see it as something going away anytime soon. In regards to the single/co-op/player interaction, yes unless you play with friends (or make new ones too!), direct player-to-player interaction is low. I chat on global all the time so it feels like a very lively world, although global 1 is often a bit edgy or off the wall, try using the command /global 2 to change to the global 2 channel where things are usually a bit more calm. For the last one, yes, at peak times there can be a bit of lag. Try to make sure you connect to the server with the best ping. Close out any internet using things you can, especially that Netflix. I installed Leatrix Lantency Fix to try to improve some performance (some may describe my laptop as a "potato") and it seems to have helped. I notice occasional disturbances, but overall it help. Best of luck to you! “ I'm going to build my own Wraeclast with blackjack and hookers. In fact forgot about Wraeclast and the blackjack. Ah screw the whole thing. ” - Exile Bender
