Titan quest, Torchlight 2 players opinion about the game
I am new here, and my favorite hack and slash game is Titan quest(yes it had few issues but it was great in my opinion), so people who have played both TQ and torchlight 2 what do you think?

I won't ever touch Torchlight but I've played Titan Quest for a countless amount of hours and this game exceeds it in every possible aspect.

" Wow that is awesome news, one thing i would have loved PoE to have is physics like titan quest had, but i asked one of the co-founders and he told me they will consider that in the future, well i guess you can't have everything :) |

Since Diablo II, I have played many other ARPGs like Sacred 1+2, Torchlight 1+2, Titan Quest (loved this one) etc..
Path of Exile also is pretty neat. I like the complexity and diversity of this game. And it's still in Beta and more good things will come sooner or later! It's worth a one-time payment(pack) to support the developers. Last edited by Crymson86#7520 on Jan 21, 2013, 5:10:49 PM

I've played every PC Action RPG game since Diablo 2. It only took about a week of casual beta testing for me to realize that Path of Exile is better than them all. With a new act coming soon and more PvP options in the works, this game is only going to get better.

" Never played TQ, I have however played Torchlight 2 and D-3. Torchlight 2 is an excellent game and certainly worth every penny and is very player friendly. D-3 is absolute garbage and not worth the space it takes up in a garbage can, horrible product made by a horrible, lying, stealing, scumbag company. But Path of Exile is a darker, maturer, deeper game. With very challenging game play and character development. Also, PoE has excellent devs,CM's, and customer service as well. Although PoE will consume most of my gaming life, I will occasionally go back time to time and play some TL2. PoE just has so much to offer both in fun and challenge. And it's only getting better. Doesn't mean some of the other AARPG's aren't good, just that PoE is just doing it better all around. |

" Titan Quest had some really enjoyable features and ideas, getting THQ to fix the bugs was the problem(thank god for player made workarounds). PoE is by far the most customizable/deep ARPG I have played so far...So if you take some of the great aspects of D2 and some of the great aspects of Titan Quest add some innovative features to traditional concepts then throw in about 20 times more depth, you have PoE. Atleast that is my opinion. | |
I was a big Torchlight fan though I only discovered it in 2011. Really enjoyed Torchlight 2 to begin with (was very excited for the game after the open beta period) but decided to stop playing until the modding tools are released (want more stash tabs!)
Since getting into Path of Exile, I find Torchlight 2 completely alien when I try to go back. Probably won't go back at all now unless I somehow get completely disillusioned with PoE. Disclaimer: I played D3 [softcore] for over 100 hours across all classes. I prefer D3 to TL2 but PoE more than either game. Tried TitanQuest recently but didn't get into it. I'm a GrimDawn supporter though. There has to be a low point where some people stop complaining because it's just not worth it, and I have yet to see it. - Squeakypaw, 2013 Last edited by obadonke#0693 on Jan 21, 2013, 5:20:39 PM

I've also played many ARPGs since Diablo II. I'd put PoE near the top of the list. Note that I didn't necessarily spend tons of months playing all of these games (although I certainly spent many, many hours), so later patches on them may have left them in different states.
Compared to pretty much everything else on the market, PoE feels a lot like Diablo II, albeit with a bunch of quality of life improvements. One major difference is that it provides its challenge in a much more broad-based way, rather than installing walls that were effectively impenetrable to many otherwise fun builds. Additionally, with any luck advances in security since the days of DII will hopefully mean that the game isn't a massive seething morass of duped items. Compared to Torchlight and Torchlight 2, PoE game feels more expansive, especially in terms of potential character builds. Additionally, even while in closed beta, PoE's difficulty curve was much better than either game's. Torchlight was extremely easy start to finish, and was filled with unchallenging monsters that just had ludicrous quantities of health. Torchlight II has a very spiky difficulty curve that leads to occasional brick walling. PoE feels consistently challenging, even in closed beta. (Although more degenerate closed beta builds do allow for rapid, easy progress.) Compared to Dungeon Siege II, the game is also more challenging. Dungeon Siege II had the weird property that it got easier and easier as you went along, almost regardless of what sort of character you were playing, to the point that it was almost mind-numbing. Titan Quest is probably the closest comparison. Both Titan Quest and PoE hit a sweet spot in terms of friendliness to experimentation vs. attachment to character, although they get at it in slightly different ways. The one thing that encourages me about PoE compared to TQ is that developers of PoE seem very "into it", both in terms of interaction with the community and really wanting to dig into their own game to make the best experience possible. Titan Quest is prettier, though. I know that that sounds like damning with faint praise, but TQ has great environments, great art direction and very satisfying monsters. It has a solid, clean look. PoE doesn't look bad or anything, but TQ is good-looking enough that I think that actually plays a big role in making it enjoyable. I have also played Diablo III. I have played both, not nearly as much as I'd like. I don't know what you are wanting to know but I'll try to explain some things I noticed about both that are good/bad.
TQ's multiplayer is all messed up and horrible, I can't get it to work and I'm not the only one. I've tried internet, I've tried some third party client, I've tried 3 different VPN softwares to get it to work on a LAN, nothing works. That's the big downside. Also it's mostly a static world/map. As a single player game it's fun though. You have a lot of character options, I personally like the art style, there's a variety of enemies and you can try all sorts of crazy builds and combinations. It's pretty well executed as far as the detail of the world goes. One thing that's kind of in between is the game's not the most balanced thing, there are definitely some combinations of schools that are better than others, and there's definitely builds within each combo that are not viable. You don't really know until you play it enough to grasp all the mechanics and/or use resources outside the game to learn the differences. Some people will be fine with that others will hate it. Let me put it this way, I'm a Grim Dawn supporter too. TL2 has working multiplayer, however the caveat is that it's an old school kind of game, there's just direct game matching and no such thing as a closed server. New schoolers can't get into games like that sometimes because it's just an experience, it has no economy and no third party forcing integrity. That kind of makes it hard because you can't just up and go necessarily, you have to find people you trust who play like you do. Otherwise I dig it. The TL engine isn't as tight and crisp as some others I've tried but you can definitely feel a D2 vibe to it, and it's been optimized as much as possible. I like their idea of the game ought to be fun to play instead of some big gear crawl, and I like the way they handle skills, etc. Same problem as some other games, some things are way better than others and some don't even really work. The good news is Runic is actually patching their product and trying to fix the biggest problems, plus TL2 was meant to be modded so I bet some fan mods that give a new experience will come out. TL2 is more to my personal tastes, but they're both good and I can't blame anyone for liking TQ more. I can't promise you'll like either but there you go. I also feel like TL2 and PoE are so opposite in so many design choices (for one thing I can play TL2 sans internets), it's like the perfect combo platter for me right now, I can get the best of two worlds. |
