global critical strike chance
" My understanding is Critical strike chance is a modifier that has no conditions tied to it, Global is a term that makes sure you understand that the critical modifier does not apply exclusively to skills using that weapon and will apply to everything your character uses. In the case of Serpent Stance, in order to get the extra crit you need to have a staff equipped for it to be active. |

normal crit-strike-chance on a weapon only applies on weapon attacks, not spells, so for example the crit value ON the weapon goes up.
spell crit only applies as it says to spells. global crit chance and ALL critchance talents in the passive tree work for basic attacks and spells. |

For me, the confusion isn't about crit chance on weapons, it's about the two different wordings in the passive tree.
1) Serpent Stance calls out Global for the critical strike chance and multiplier. 2) Just down and left of there and look at Bloodthirst, the wording is just critical strike chance (not global). It's not tied to a weapon, or to physical, or to spells, so I'm not sure how that's different than Global Then if you go farther down the left side, you have: 3) Pure Brutality increases critical strike chance with 2H weapons. From 1) and 2), my expectation is that this increase is only while using weapon-based "attack" keyword skills with said 2H weapon. 4) Arcane Potency across the aisle from Pure Brutality increases critical strike chance with spells. This is a pretty clear increase to spells only. So, from all of these different examples, my best guess is that the wording on Serpent Stance (which is the only use of "global" in the whole tree) is just meant to convey that it has a weapon type requirement but still contributes to both weapon-based skills AND spells, while every other "crit while wielding a certain weapon" node only contributes to weapon-based skills. Does that sound right? Whether or not the bonuses are applying properly or not I have no idea... I went RT on my staff wielder for now. :) Last edited by Rasm#5891 on Apr 2, 2013, 5:37:47 PM

"It does indeed, because it is. "Critical Strike Chance" with no other qualifiers, applies to any critical strike chance. "Spell Critical Strike Chance" only applies to spells, and so on for weapon specific ones with their various restrictions. Serpent Stance is unique in that it applies a non-specific crit bonus, which applies to anything, but only works if you're holding a certain kind of weapon. Logically that would just be described as "Critical Strike Chance while holding Staves", but many people wouldn't notice the difference between that and "Critical Strike Chance with Staves", which applies only to crits deal using the staff, so will never apply to spells. So we made Serpent Stance explicitly say it's a global bonus to avoid that confusion. | |
" This makes sense. However I dont understand then the difference between crit chance and global crit chance. There are daggers i have found that say 40% global critical strike chance, then they also get x% spell crit chance and x% crit chance. What is the difference between the global cirt chance and the regular crit chance? |

" The word "Global" is to provide clarity that its not exclusive to the weapon or skills used by the weapon(viper strike and other melee skills), but that that crit bonus provided by the dagger applies to ALL SKILLS AND ATTACKS. Daggers for example, some of them have spell power attached to them, but if the modifier didn't say global, it may be assumed that the weapon's 40% Critical Strike chance modifier may only be applied to the weapon itself, but its not, its GLOBAL. I cant really be any more clear than this. |

Here is a request:
Please add nodes for "30% Increase local Critical Strike Chance with Weapon/Spell"! |

Thanks realshotz, that was exactly what I was looking for.

"This is not possible. By definition, local increased crit chance applies only to the item it's on (which must therefore be a weapon, to have a crit chance). Local crit chance on a passive node could not possibly affect anything. |
