Hey there, would you like to talk about Homestuck?

Wh....
ow
my eyes.
Why would you DO that to unsuspecting people on the internet.
WHY.
It's like fire but burnieriest

Wait, so people sometimes talk to each other about meaningless things?

I particularly liked the scene in Hamlet where he's pooping because people poop all the time.

PEOPLE INTRODUCE PLOT POINTS INTO CONVERSATION?

Not just conversation mind you but chat transcripts. for example, take this scene from Cinderella:
cindyrealtor: oh hi fairy godmother
fairlygoodmoth: MY DEAR REMEMBER HOW WE DISCUSSED CURFEW
cindyrealtor: no
fairlygoodmoth: YOUR SHOES WERE POTATOES THE ENTIRE NIGHT WHY DID NOBODY MENTION THIS
cindyrealtor: but i left
cindyrealtor: what are you talkig about
cindyrealtor: talking*
fairlygoodmoth: THE SEVENTH SEAL HAS BEEN OPENED
fairlygoodmoth: THE LORD OF DARKNESS APPROACHES AND YOU MUST UNDO THE POTATO CURSE

"
People talking about ongoing events, wow.

luke: hey what do you think about that thing that's happeneing
han solo: nm u
luke: glad we had this conversation, it's great storytelling.

"

Odd story thing that. Give me a nice simple narrative like OOTS to follow, where the bad guys are signposted and the endgame is inevitable and predictable.

k

"

The story wasn't even near ending.

And apparently it's no nearer today than back when he said he had it all plotted out and it would take 'bout a year no wait two no wait forever.

It's also kind of interesting seeing you trying to reconcile that and:
"
And hey, goals change. the goalposts move. Jack became pretty inconsequential in the grand scheme. There's always a bigger boss, and they found the biggest. He's put a vague goal for when Homestuck will finish, and he's said that he knows how it will end. His original plans have apparently not changed a massive amount from when he made them, so hey.

So hey. But of course we can never prove that.

"

So, you can't accuse him of making it up as he goes and really be accurate in that.

Just try to stop me.
"

He has a plan, he's aimed for it. It's going to be fulfilled at some point. When, who knows.

Pure speculation.
"

But the ride is fun.

But the art, man. You cray cray. The second picture is clearly, CLEARLY, much better, more complex, more worked, more engaging than the first. Good grief, it's in full colour as well! Anyhow, shenanigans can ensue. Don't read if you don't like some of the weirder things. Fine by me. Be happy.

The art is different but not better. The ride is not as fun for everyone.
"

But seriously, do we really need bashing in here?
Yes, we do, because:
1. Goddamn trolls are topical, how did you not grasp this plot point?
2. We're discussing our differences in opinions about the quality of the work and what about it works.

I didn't say you couldn't accuse him, I just said it wouldn#t really be accurate. Anyhow, I'm going to go trawl through Hussie's tumblr for the answer he gave about Homestuck ending which I'm using for backing here. And to be honest, that Cinderella thing is actually pretty funny. Well, my opinion, which has no value.

The Star Wars example though, isn't quite so accurate. What happened to the apparent "novel" levels of text? Three lines, bluh.

I mean, this is kinda what's up at the moment, discussing the happenings at the moment. Rose in this is drunk on alchemised alcohol, so the spelling's off.

Spoiler

KANAYA: Since Its Now Clear That Your Premeditated Designs On This Evening Exceeded My Own By A Wide Margin

Not exactly three-line parables on "nm wassup".

Anyhow, how is the art in the second just "different"? That's just in his ususal "Hero Mode!" style which he did through the entire comic at points. He's just used it a lot more recently, but it should still be recognisable as an old style. There's a ton of detail in that second image compared to the first, so he has improved. Anyhow, if you don't like the ride, don't get off and then start throwing tomatoes at those riding it while telling them how wrong they are for riding it. I'm enjoying myself with it, why do I need to be told to "Stop having fun! Stop it! It's obviously low-quality! Stop enjoying yourself!"

But bleh! The whole point of them talking about seemingly meaningless things is partly because they're friends, it's story-relevant, and they are teenagers. It helps to give some background into how they are at other times, and some of the more meaningless Pesterlogs have been some of the most fun to read!

And anyhow, I'll get back once I've found that post. It's half-midnight where I live, and my connection is being a pain. So that may take a bit of time while sleep and router sort themself out.

The trolls ain't really topical, unless you count the pre-scratch alphacestors. They're deliberate stereotypes of blogger archetypes. And since the vast majority of these things are on opinion, such as art improvement, it's not really an issue we can debate without it getting a tad bitter. Opinions seem to do that on the internet.

Neither of us can prove the state of his mind at all points in the history of stuff.

I didn't feel like trying to come up with a novel of boring.

Dang, you found the one page I was referring to with my parable!
"

Anyhow, how is the art in the second just "different"?

The use of color, filters, the form of characters and the world around them, composition, animation, detail, etc. are different. The real question is, how can you claim they are better in the second?
"

You used two images to illustrate improvement, the two images you chose are different styles, what
"

There's a ton of detail in that second image compared to the first, so he has improved.

ha ha ha oh god

By this metric, an image of goatse formed by a collage of thousands of crime scene photos is better than the mona lisa because all the little details.
"

Anyhow, if you don't like the ride, don't get off and then start throwing tomatoes at those riding it while telling them how wrong they are for riding it.

Who's throwing tomatoes at the riders?
"

I'm enjoying myself with it, why do I need to be told to "Stop having fun! Stop it! It's obviously low-quality! Stop enjoying yourself!"

1. No fun allowed
2. Who said "Stop having fun! Stop it! It's obviously low-quality! Stop enjoying yourself!"?
"

But bleh! The whole point of them talking about seemingly meaningless things is partly because they're friends, it's story-relevant,

But if you're not a friend, it's not quite as fun. Then, the banter and in jokes turn into so much blather. Basically, if you're a fan you like it because you're 'in', and if you aren't, you don't. That's not a very good reason for dragging out a story well past initial estimates. ;|

Also, why is an explanation of why there are irrelevant or meaningless conversations "it's relevant"?

"

And anyhow, I'll get back once I've found that post. It's half-midnight where I live, and my connection is being a pain. So that may take a bit of time while sleep and router sort themself out.

Just so you know, if you do track down him saying something like "I meant to do that!" or "It's all according to plan", I'm going to say the narrator is unreliable. Just a heads up.
"

so um
you're complaining that my replies are argumentative and blah blah
and then i said its ok because TROLLS
and then you didnt get it?
unless
unless its the fabled godtroll

Well that raises the question of what you were expecting from this thread. Either everyone shares your opinions about the work and all aspects of it, in which case you might as well post "who else is posting +1?" "+1", or people disagree about something and then say what they disagree about. And then internet.
Wait...did I accidentally start all this with my "crappy" comment?

If so then damn...move on. I didn't even mean crappy in a bad way, really. I LOVE Dolan (because I'm clearly an idiot) and I consider it one of the biggest turds on the internet in terms of quality, thus: crappy. When I said Homestuck was a "super crappy web comic" I only meant aesthetically and categorically, since I tend to really enjoy super crappy web comics.

Honestly the reason I don't follow Homestuck is I don't have time, and I don't like art that takes itself very seriously. It's just a personal preference. So if I accidentally trolled by using the word crappy then my apologies. If I had time and taste, I'm sure I'd wanna talk about homestuck.

I tried it once and hated it. I also hate the fact that people try and talk like the characters sometimes.

So yeah no.
Thunderstorms and Sugar
Actually, dude, I kinda made this thread for fans of it to come and maybe discuss things happening in it. It wasn't really so I could have to deal with a torrent of hate from one person. I didn't make this for hate, I'm having a damn awful day, and I really.

really

am not dealing with excretetions of this level. Say "Quitter concedes, Homestuck sucks." If you want.

And out of interest, what webcomics do you think are so much better, use the medium to greater effect, are better written, have better art, and a faster update schedule.

I'm so done on trying to convince you, when you are clearly disillusioned with it and will not listen to things which some dude on a forum says. A former fan of something is always far more vicious about things than just a random guy.
Thanks for the time.

about the only web comics I read regular are Dolan (barely counts) and "Goblins". I really don't know of many more, I've done a few looks at others but most were either clearly made for juveniles or terribly written. I'm totally open to suggestions.
