Players have reported that Creative have released Beta drivers for some of their sound cards, and that these have helped fix the problem for them!

Well, it seems an apology is in order. After installing the latest drivers (v2_17_0009 published in january 2013) for my X-Fi titanium, I've been able to play all afternoon without BSOD.
So yeah, I'm sorry, and thanks for the advice. Now I can start supporting the game.
I'm looking forward for Creative to bring out new drivers for Audigy users like me, too. At the moment, i'm still stuck with the Issue.
Top of the line PC/GFX/CPU

Creative audio card (XFI) - BSODS. WINDBG calls client.exe and creative audio driver the culprit. Been like this since closed beta. Sad because i can only play with no audio. Please fix soon :(
I don't get BSOD's on my Titanium HD, but I do get a hell of a lot of OGG NOT DECODING errors or something. Only happens in Docks, Vaal Pyramid and SOMETIMES just standing around in some random place.

This problem isn't exclusive to PoE, it's a problem between old X-Fi drivers and hardware OpenAL on Vista+ OSes. LOTRO and some other games also 0x50 BSOD with X-Fi for the same reason. Clean installing the latest beta drivers solved this for me and many others (this issue was specifically fixed by Creative, game devs are not responsible).

I don't get BSOD's though. Just files failing to decode and the game crashing.

Too bad. I was planning on supporting the game, I liked it at first. But a BSOD after barely one hour has cool me down. I'll wait for a patch, if there is one someday.
Plus, I don't agree with the devs explanations. I haven't seen a BSOD since I dropped windows 98 (that's 10 years, give or take). You're not gonna convince me that my hardware / driver / whatever is responsible for something only this game triggers.

Just as a note on the hardware remark.

I too had this issue with the BSOD. But I'll explain the changes I made the may have contributed to this problem.

I built my current system from scratch in 2010. It was built around a P55 EVGA/Intel board using a PCI-E 2.0 bus. I had put a Quadro FX 1800 video card that was used primarily for Photoshop. However, the gaming performance was minimal but indeed stable. Even with PoE, I never had a BSOD.

Fast forward to to Jan 2013. I bought a new EVGA 650 GTX ti PCI-E 3.0 video card. From day one, I had problems. PoE began to crash along with Diablo 3, both had BSOD. The one thing that struck me with many people here experiencing the same thing; they mostly seem to be running new cards, even cards they recently upgraded to from a lesser card. Which got me thinking.

What if this is more of a bus speed compatibility issue rather than an exclusive software issue. I returned the 650 GTX ti card for a 560 GTX PCI-E 2.0 bus. The result has been amazing. I now have the stability of my old Qaudro card but with much better 3D performance when gaming.

To sum things up, there are so many variables when it comes to hardware and compatibility, the job of a game developer seems daunting at best. Put pride aside for a moment and thoroughly evaluate your hardware compatibility.

Simply buying the latest and greatest hardware without investigating how that piece of hardware is going to impact your existing system may lead to a lot of headaches.

For starters, make sure your MB, memory, video card and hard drives have matching bus speeds. Technically, newer bus speeds are suppose to be backward compatible, BUT. When you invest in a new piece of hardware to upgrade, keep in mind that your older MB was not specifically designed for future technology, in particular, bus speeds.

If your MB has a PCI-E 2.0 bus, use PCI-E 2.0 hardware.
If your MB has a SATA II drive bus, use SATA II hard drives.
If your MB has a recommended memory, USE IT!

Don't assume by upgrading a memory stick or a video card that it will boost your system. Stick with hardware that your MB was designed for.

hi since today i have the same problems
i allready have some lvl 60 chars and had never bugs or crashes so it should be your last update every time i try to enter chamber of sins i get
