How do you learn to price items?

This is very hard, as very few people list prices. I constantly watch trade while playing, and there seems to be no logic. An item that sells from one person for 2 gcp is sold by someone else for 2ex. Is the 2ex guy crazy, or was the 2 gcp guy not aware of the value.

I constantly see items being sold for 2-3 ex, and look in my inventory and find an item 95% as good, and I won't get a single response for 1ex. Does that guy ever sell it for 2ex? I don't know. Is it simply repetition that sells it, if so? I rarely spam my items for hours upon hours. I figure if no one was interested after the first few times, no one will be interested later. I don't know how many people are actively in the chat. Maybe the person that would be interested wasn't on.

I've traded in just about every mmo arpg since Everquest and I've never seen a trade system as frustrating/confusing as POE. Outside of currency values, which are pretty static, nothing seems to be logical, outside of 300+ dps weapons, 700+ ES 5 links, etc. You might even see a Shav for 20 ex one day, and someone else is asking 50 ex the next. The rolls don't vary *that* much.

Trade chat will burn your soul if you expect it to work.

Post a thread in the selling forums of your league. Specify buyout. If you include your timezone and what ratios for chaos:gcp and such, the better. Adjust price once a week if you don't sell it.

This. So much this. Prices seem to be just whatever someone pulls out of their ass, which also makes the idiotic "I only accept offers" stuff even more annoying. Then they get pissed when you don't offer them a fortune for something that looks like its just mediocre. I look at prices on some gear, and I'm just floored by what they ask/sell it for. Trading in this game is an absolute nightmare unless you want to spend all your time learning the market instead of playing the game.

the best way to learn the prices is constantly playing and learning , check the trade forums , poezyx , the chat and never forget to experiment by yourself . Learning the value of uniques is easy and that shouldnt be too hard , gems arent hard too , currency isnt hard too , learning the value of shitty rares and GG ones isnt hard too , the real problem is on mid rolled rares !! generally most players can recognize a shit rare or a GG one , u dont even bother to sell shit rares or just make huge 1 alch sales and u will get a lot of offers for GG rares so u probably wont get ripped off if u are patient .

The thing is many fail to judge the things in the mid , some tend to overprice too much and some seem to just not care and get ripped off . the thing is there isnt an easy way to understand the prices of these kind of items and experience will be your only friend !

Most important of all be patient!

Dont be afraid of offering even if its a low ball or a high ball , the best would be always low balling when u offer and always high balling when u sell , probably the buyer/seller will say nty or lol noob in worst cases but u will see a ` well how much were u thinking about` will do the trick. We humans are easy to trick , the brutal environment of PoE can help some times .When u will lowball and then ask for the price the seller wont high ball anymore cuz he will know that will be useless , the fear of not really knowing the value of the item will help too and in 90 % of the cases u will know the right fair price of an item from his own words.Note!Since the seller will be the first of actually doing a logical offer u could even counter offer more on it :P.the shitiest the items are the better u will do :D
Best case : u will get an item with the low ball , worst case : u will get an item for no more than its real value

Highballing is the kinda same but a bit more difficult to pull , u see people cant really reach and know their sellers as sellers do with their buyers cuz there isnt a poexyz for them.SO that guy who is pming u probably has 10 other rares in his poexyz list The opposite thing is that mustnt push too hard on shit and shit to medium items but just get rid of them , only do it on medium medium to great and gg items.

This is a trading advice in general but u will see it will really be useful if u know shit brick of the values . Something else everybody should know is taking things easy , dude just dont think too much , dont worry if u payed to much or the seller payed too low . Trade for fun and dont consider it as an obligation , u will never enjoy the game that way so relax play and be patient :D

I've actually sold things for more in trade chat than via forums, and more frequently.

Forums are great if your items get indexed quickly or you bump hourly. (but even then i bumped hourly for 6 days and got an offer on game way before i did on here)

PM me bins on items I bid on if you have one.

offer what you think it's worth. if they're not willing, give them time. if the item doesn't sell/get offers for what they want it to, they will gradually become more lenient on their price as they get a more realistic view of what their item is worth. after a while of making them wait, remind them that you're still looking to buy and maybe raise your offer a slight bit. it doesn't always work- sometimes they are very hard-headed and unwilling to accept a lower value for their item than they've envisioned, sometimes someone else snatches the item up while you're waiting and you don't get to buy it, but it's the best you can do when you want to haggle down an item's price
I used to be young, like you guys and spam the trade chat for days without mercy. Nowadays i just post my items on the forum and hope that someone finds them through indexer. These pixels can rot in my stash forever for all i care.
I'm a forum warrior, i was born to post, raised to defend my league. Now my post has been removed, chained and exiled by mods who Ban. Ban is my brother; i do not fear it. I see it in the eyes of men and beasts that i troll. It will take me to play the actual game when i am ready and i am not ready.
You have to understand the specification of mods, numbers roll on what people look for on class/build. Do some research and you'll get better.
