Holy shit that Mace is bad.

The default crit chance is fucking low so you need to invest a lot into crit chance while not even dealing more damage. And all that just to get a measly 20% attackspeed. The default dps is so bad that you could probably chaos roll a 60+ 2 Hander and would at least get one better weapon in 20 rolls.

That thing is just sad to look at.

And good luck doing that. First thing i did with this mace is pop open the skill tree.
It's fucked. I want to like it, but it's fucked. Out of every way to get crit in the game, i can't think of one that would make this mace even worth using, let alone competetive. You would heavily outdps it with a decent mace with RT.

Give that mace a higher crit chance and it will be good. Atm it's pretty meh.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
Crit nodes for melee weapons are terrible. Coupled with low crit chance on the mace, makes this mace kinda crappy.

Only interesting thing is you can inflict status alignment, such as freeze, without killing yourself on crit reflects.

Overall: Meh.


Can't we give GGG some degree of 'benefit of the doubt' here? I mean shit we all saw what Kongor's first mace looked like, I doubt he'd be cool with it turning into shit-on-a-stick.

Also I wonder how the new Claw + Incinerate fare together? I mean if you take BM you can support that at default cost/level 20 with no passive investment as a single-target skill. It's probably possible to feed it off life with a BM support gem rather than go EB for it too (or go EB anyway and use Arctic Armour)

The attackspeed is so slow that even running 25% crit chance is a huge gamble because the buff only lasts 2seconds. Youre basically forced to run Multistrike to even have a shot at keeping up the buff.

The main problem is that it requires you to heavily invest into crit so even if you set the default at 8% you would still need over 200% crit chance from the tree to reach an reasonable level. You have easy access to a 140% pack next to the Templar area but thats about it. Then again the crit doesnt give you anything apart from 20% attackspeed, something you could roll on a rare mace or easily find in the tree if you really want it.

The only way I could see this thing being useful would be in a CI Flickerstrike build but even then you would probably want to swap it out as fast as possible. The default damage, even with quality added simply is too damn low to justify the lack of elemental modifiers (unless the one we have here has the lowest roll possible and it goes up to 420+ DPS which is something I highly doubt)
Investing into crit with a mace like this (which would be a niche build, mace crit) should at least offer competetiveness. That's what the trade off is. In exchange for being competetive with rares (but not stronger than really good ones), you have to build a mace critter. You won't even touch a decent rare with this (yet) though.

Onslaught is also really limiting...

NOTE: This might be a bit too powerful with how high the speed can get:

Or you can replace PCoC with Faster ATtacks and have 54% ias all the time instead of 20% sometimes :P.

You might be able to make it viable, but youll never be able to make power charges or increased critical strikes better than another DPS gem of choice with the way that mace is now.

Hmm just had a realisation about Kongor's

You gain Onslaught on 'critical' - not 'critical with this weapon'.

Cast LMP/Ice Spear before jumping into a pack of mobs and you've got your 20% increased attack/move/cast speed right there.
Life gain on hit for spells and and an offensive bonus for stacking high block chance.. Those claws are awesome. Stacking LGoH with GR leech on life/ES is incredibly powerful, it essentially converts your ES into a flat DR with a sufficient attack speed. Now that can be done with spells!...
