Well there's the main difficulty, if they make uniques as good as godly rares they will have to drop just as rarely, which is significantly less than now. And if they are also to enable interesting builds then the only way to play that interesting build would be to pay 80+ exalt or challenge the non-existent chance to drop it.
And I'm afraid logic about godly artifacts simply has no place here, I highly doubt Maligaro made thousands of his gloves to hand around. If uniques were truly unique we would have only one per league... that actually might be kinda interesting :)
I don't want drawbacks for the sake of them and not all uniques should have them, pretty much just those that offer significant unique advantages. So, if I use an axe that has a certain chance to cut my foot every time I swing, then I bloody well expect it also to have a chance to lop someone's head off in one hit and fashion me a balloon poodle out of his intestines to boot.
That's a good point.
Now isn't it simply a matter of balancing the power of uniques, their drawbacks and the rarity they're found with?
Cuz hey, another patch introducing 3/4 uniques that are good only for leveling! Yay! Don't we have enough of them already? Does 90% of population of players is interested in doing normal and cruel with 10-20 alts or doing maps with 2-3 characters?
As far as economy is concerned, wouldn't it be cool to play a game where the best way to get best loot is killing difficult bosses, not flipping / ripping ppl off all day long?
Why do you even need trade outside of your map party in a HACK and SLASH game? Because the drop is too random? Well GGG, stop behaving like it's XIX century. Check out the idea of Loot 2.0 and finding items the charcater you play with will use (not another mace with +30 cold res, +15 light radius, +10 dexterity, come on...).

Exactly, it's tricky, very tricky to get right, and that's why we get one Crown of Eyes for ten Fido's Mighty Dildos, and I probably prefer that to more legacy uniques. My opinion on rares here is similar to yours, they were made too hard to roll in order not to ruin the online economy (which I don't really give a rat's ass about), and I don't really share GGG view on the matter of lasting appeal.
Now, the idea of skewed loot drops isn't very attractive to me in any game, it might be if I had only one char but I usually don't. As long as good stuff drops one of my chars will be able to use it. Not much related, but seems to me bliz went full casual on D3 (not an insult, I consider myself a pretty casual player, at least in regards to time invested). I mean, look at that mod reroll thing, it's just too convenient, and based on some streams I watched it isn't even too expensive, a couple of random maps and you can roll it a few times. I might be wrong here but no serious arpg would make such a thing widely available, we can do it here after a fashion, but it's so prohibitively expensive and involved that probably less than 1% of players actually do it.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

Anything what help rid off economy is good for game, this is the most retarded addition GGG put into, except this, quite nice, aRPG.
And Entropus is rather not referring to creation of BiS, better that more than godly rares uniques, but rather to lack of interesting end-game uniques for casters.
An IMO this is not true, having godly rares is good for build diversity. Virtually, all godly rares are the same and are for similar, cookie cutter builds. It's much worse that having godly uniques with unique properties.
And as there is mirror, the most retarded orb ever envisioned for aRPG, those cookie cutter builds godly enablers are copied into even more cookie cutter builds enablers.
Retarded? Well, maybe, from a perspective of RMT player, and i suppose you're definetely the one.
Want to get rid of economy? Turn off trade chat and dont join any parties. Just play the game, and dont complain there.

Expain me, Mortal, how you came to conclusion that I'm RMT player if I want to get rid off economy which mere existence is precondition for RMT? :D
No, I sell only to vendors and but only items GGG set too los chance to drop becouse of tour precious economy...
Anticipation slowly dissipates...

btw lore wise all unique items are already mirrored from the original, hence the justification of being unable to use mirror on them.
on to the main topic:
the chance for a godly rare is abysmal compared to a unique drop.
if they were to buff unique stats to be equal to a BiS rare then you would have to lower it's drop rate to that degree, and then they would be extinct, maybe 2-3/league and that's even if.
given that uniques can't be mirrored either, and can't be crafter either, then that means that if p.e. a godly unique now (p.e. 6l shav's) has a price range of 60+exs, then the price of a BiS unique would be quite substansial than this, in the range of 150-200+exs.
if they get so rare, their differance from a normal BiS rare would only be in the color of the item then... so irrelevant.
