It will be 1 alch tomorrow.
This helm will be OP if it increases resist and block cap. I doubt it does. Last edited by dspair#3915 on Dec 23, 2013, 12:25:35 AM

So.. did I miss some game mechanics that make you like this helm? I tried explaining how it would potentially work and why it wouldn't. It's not like there is some hidden properties you can't know from first glance. Many uniques like infernal mantel although not used often are still good in their own way, this isn't like that.
GGG are not perfect, it isn't the first or the last bad unique. This part is especially important: " To give an example.. a spell that does 750 with 75 all resist would do 3k at 0. That is a 300% increased in damage. Last edited by kasub#2910 on Dec 23, 2013, 12:29:51 AM

The upside to the new helm is, as pointed out, that it can bring your resists up to 0 as well.
While imo that has little merit in merciless, in pvp, if you are up against someone with double curse + EE, etc, who can put -150 resist on you, it might be better to just swap out for that helmet than try to stack 300+ resist or rely on temporary flasks of warding. Useful, just very very very niche. |

to deal with someone like that, I rather use curse reflection shield. By the time they curse the living shit out of you it'd be kinda late to put this helm on, tbh.

" That's actually pretty creative.. though any pvp spell will probably onehit you at 0 resists. |

20% Global Defense equates to a considerable amount of ES, Armor, and/or Evasion for some builds which acquire very little % increases of them because they are focused on HP or Mana. It affects all 3 at once, which is also significant, and the equivalent of 20% to ALL THREE is quite a few passive points even IF you are using a ton of passives for them. 20% increased ES is nothing to scoff at, that's an added 10% of your total for a build that has 200% from passives.
The fact that this removes all need for resists (as much of a downside as it is) also has significant value. How many pieces of gear are absolutely AMAZING barring their lack of resists? This single item just made those leap up in value for any builds that are designed to use this (assuming SOME can be made). The problem, as you see it, is that you believe a character is virtually guaranteed to die while using this from some spell or other. Now, I ask you this: if that problem can be worked around successfully using some other mechanic than resists - even something other than spell block (keeping in mind that capping spell block isn't THAT hard) - this helm is QUITE good, EVEN for end game? I already have several ideas in mind for this. If you want those ideas, I suggest you consider it a personal challenge to discover some for yourself. :D Edit: Another side effect is items that have negative resist values have almost no downside any more with it (again assuming you can overcome the downside of this item). Curse reflection shield doesn't save you from epicly low resists. Granted, you're right that if you get hit by the curses without the hat, it's too late. But you can easily swap your helm out out and have it for every subsequent round of the match.
There are probably better ways to deal with this, I'm just saying there are times when would it actually be beneficial to have it on your head. |

So you gain 20% more EHP and receive 4 times more damage from elemental attacks. Sounds pretty good.
Well, not exactly 20%, but even if it's 50%, it's still bad. Last edited by dspair#3915 on Dec 23, 2013, 12:46:42 AM

Seriously, that new helm would go great that belt that reduces resists.
Bullshit, you get the game for free.
