22 recombinators.
I just recently tried recombining T7 flat with another T7 flat in rings, 12 tries. Its 25% chance for success. Its only 2 mods. No rings survived.
The ring cost about 1 to 4 exalts since they are breach ring, so lets say 2 exalts each which is 44 exalts (24 rings). It cost 24 black-scythe artifact for each try, 288 artifact which cost about 170 exalts in Alva. It cost me 214 exalts and 20mins of PM-ing every single one that sell the ring, without waiting. It rewards me with no breach ring that has two T7 flat damage. And even if I succeed in getting the ring with those 2 mods, what am I gonna do next ? SLAM GACHA BABY. So not only its still a gacha, its not even worth to use Annul / Whittling omens if you hit terrible suffix, since the mods are only T7. Minus 214 exalts in which I can save to buy similar ring in trade site, and minus 20mins that I could use to do maps instead of trade. Leave this kind of gameplay in PoE 1. I don't want to play hideout warrior in PoE 2. Make the game focus on action and combat, stop designing the game around trade and itemization. To follow up on my previous post, the recombinator is not broken. The success rate in the actual state of the game is probably what it should be.
That means that yes, some ppl will be lucky and hit their first recomb and end up with insane gear with minimal farm, and some ppl will try for 50+ times and will fail. It's a gamble mechanic in itself and the odds to hit a dual high tier item is low as it should be for a one-off gamble. The real problem is that the crafting being in the state it is, recombinator is the ONLY ACTUAL path that people see to be reasonably achievable to obtain such an item. And there's the problem. There should be multiple paths to obtain high end items (not even talking about mirror tier). Recomb should only be one of them. So that you can gamble once in a while and test your luck but not feel devastated if you're amongst the unlucky ones. The fact that it is the only one available and its gamble nature creates obvious frustration. Basic currency crafting is dead thanks to removal of alte and scour, essences have the same problem as basic crafting (in poe 1 essence crafting would require you to use between 50 and 200 essences to hit the mod you want. In POE2 the odds are roughly the same, but each try requires a clean base item. 50 to 200 base items for the same results... who's going to do that shit ? So it's back to gambling again. Bring back alterations and scourings. I keep yelling at windmills in this forum that it's the primal reason why crafting is dogshit in POE2 and everytime i talk about any crafting subject I end up right back at that same conclusion. |

" So we go to alteration spam, where item drops mean nothing? Is that it? |

" Why exactly are you so attached to item drop meaning anything anyway ? I can understand the naive principle of "i want everything in my game to be meaningful" but down to earth, realisticly, why would it bother you that crap item you don't want drop anyway ? I mean you probably do filter out all of the low level tier base that drop right ? What's the difference ? The actual problem is that there was a PERCEIVED problem in POE1 that 95% loot was useless and somehow reducing that number would make anyone feel better ? I'd really like an explanation of why really. Anyway the major problem is that this decision had a concrete, palpable impact in that EVERYONE hates the crafting in POE2. I'm sorry but i don't see a solution here aside of rollback and go back to what worked - ie POE1 system. If you don't want alte back, ok then propose a fix to make crafting good again. Just saying that you want item drops to be meaningful is not enough. |

" I would go a bit deeper to this. I would say that: 3 of 10 people will do their recombination and get nothing. 4 of 10 people will get one good item. 2 of 10 people will get two good items. 1 of 10 people will get three good items. (This is approximation for the 11-10) So from 220 bases, you get serious amount of good items (11), that will (without any doubt) hit the market. My point here is, that the recombinator, while on "local" scale for a specific player, may feel like a total gamble... But on more macro-scale it injects valuable gear to the market, from basic components that would otherwise be considered nothing but vendor trash. This additional supply lowers the prices. So even if the majority of the players are unable/unwilling to deal with recombination, the system on its own will provide them with affordable gear. We cannot simply dismiss this effect on the whole economy... |

" I guess I am used to it from diablo 1 and 2. |

You're actually spending your time trying to convince people any of this is ok. That's what's worse.
you literally have more chances of hitting a purity of fire sublime vision in PoE 1 than you do combining 2 mods in PoE 2. It's not fun, it's not rewarding, it doesn't respect anyones time. Mostly negative on steam, review bombed across every platform, 1/3 of the player base the game had on release and you're still trying to defend it. Bored already. People trying to defend this are part of the problem and are in the minority. |

" Bro i'm 40yo. I've played D1 and D2 when they released and D2 was my favorite Hack&Slash for years when i was a teen. I've done my fair share of Mephisto runs before LoD released and then did my share of baal runs too. I remember trying to trade by spamming my trade message in the insanely flooded trade chat to try to get enough to buy myself a full Immortal king set with grandfather for my barbarian. I'm sorry but i don't really remember picking up every item that dropped back then. That's how it went : "make a lightining sorc with shako and all MF gear, TP across the map fighting absolutely nothing until you reach mephisto, kill him in 5s. Did a good unique, or a good rune dropped ? Yes - profit. No ? reload map instantly and retry" I can assure you i wasn't wasting time picking up rares that the boss looted, nobody did. " Approximately 40% " Approximately 10% (9.6%) You can test this out with a good random number generator. Choose a set of 1-100. Take the top 5 numbers or the top number. Now start clicking 10 times. Do it for a long period of time and count the number of successes in 10 efforts. You may get lucky and see success far more than 40%/10% chance, or unlucky and far less than a 40%/10% chance. If you click enough times, it will get closer to those numbers. Whether GGG's "randomness" is random, I don't know. The game certainly seems biased to me at throwing very low tier garbage mods onto any item with 2 or more great mods. I don't make enough efforts to say that is what GGG does with their programming and servers though.
