Exp Loss - The Great Debate. But why no High-End Unique with Prevention?
I got to thinking...
If GGG ever had an intention of giving you a way to prevent experience loss, why havent they created at the very least, a unique that prevents exp loss on death? Im not talking about the Omen of Amellioration either, i mean 100 prevented loss on a unique item. Ofc, i realized shortly after, the item, no matter what disadvantages they placed on it, would be pretty damn OP, allowing all sortsa glass cannon content to emerge. Well, thats that. Would be cool though. Could provide a way to squelch the complaints. Thats all. GGG - Why you no? Last bumped on Mar 14, 2025, 11:43:04 AM

Because that would actually be bad game design.
It becomes completely worthless for every character at some point. It doesn't interact with other items and is mechanically boring. Lastly, a lot of bad players will think it's mandatory for reaching 100. Also, recent content in PoE 1 has become more and more anti-glass cannon to prevent shenanigans like killing uber eater, exarch in a single frame in other areas. I don't think the devs are too happy about glass cannon builds. |

Its not exp loss
it bad balance. If the game was balanced people wouldn't care. You can say get better. One shots are rampant. The isnt any attempt to balance things... Base mob x Map Mods x ArchNemesis Mods x League Mechanic = Who f'n knows Boom you dead ... 80% of deaths in this game happen from full life bar to 0 in under 1 second. When that is possible, you cant have Exp penalties. You can't have one portal because its a coin toss. If the game had balance .. you could make the point of exp penalties being fine. " Because that would defeat the purpose? The XP penalty is there to force/encourage you to make good decisions, both when it comes to your build (offense vs defense) and when it comes to the content you run. PoE is a game where you can scale both your build and the content you run into oblivion, and the knowledge there is to find the balance. XP penalty tells you that you haven't found that balance; keep searching for it. An item preventing you from taking the penalty would be stupid. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

Bad Design : Well some would argue theres an Awful lot of that in the POE franchise to begin with, lol. Though i disagree, each to their own, after all, thats just an opinion.
Penalty : For what exactly? As many have pointed out (and even the top Hardcore players that keep dying) ... One Shots... Also, highly stupid. At any rate, it is what it is. And the point is, GGG has no intention of removing it, at all. In fact, the Omen of Amellioration was quite a shocker to me, as even that small bone is quite a feat from GGG. One last note, i was chattin with a few people, and most agreed, that if it was just aquirable, it would be a bad idea, however, a few mentioned, that perhaps it could be craftable by any lvl 100 character you have, only by you, and only by mats you have found. I actually liked that idea. It would result in you needing to create that 100 legit, but allowing alts a slightly easier time. Thats all. GGG - Why you no? "For the same reason we don't have cheat death passives like Diablo 3 does. It defeats the purpose and has no place in this game. |

To be fair, I can imagine ways to balance such an item without making the game too easy.
Maybe something like "99% less EXP gain, lose EXP instead of gaining EXP". Something that you could slap on to do a risky encounter real quick, but you can't run it a lot or you'll slowly drain your accrued EXP--assuming you're above 0% to next level because if you aren't, there's no need for the item. |

It's been nerfed from 15% XP loss at endgame, to 10% XP loss on death. Getting Lvl 100 is easier than ever. Just run Alch & Go t16 maps with Breach Scarabs. That way you can still get 75 million to 100 million XP an hour at level 99.
You're just playing a non-meta build / have skill issue honestly. |

Should try HCSSF bro

" There's no record of this. It was 5% ("Cruel") and 10% ("Ruthless", later "Merciless") since patch 0.7.1 (March 2010). " Except that is false. EXP curve beyond level 94 has been adjusted more than once, increased in total to extend the grind: Patch 2.4.0: " Patch 3.1.0: " It's rather easy to look up and verify or debunk this kind of stuff. Edit: Forgot to add: Not to mention that quite a few of the big leveling strats were sequentially nerfed to grant much less EXP.
