GGG Please consider giving us options to make Frostbolt not pierce

By default Frostbolt pierce all the time, which greatly limits cold builds.

In order to make Frostbolt work with various shatter builds (E.G. where we shatter a frost wall for damage) we have to use a unique ring Snakepit.
This is a subpar ring stat wise, which greatly limits our endgame stats (mana etc).

Please consider having an option (either by default or have a passive skill or a support gem) to make it stop piercing.

Highly agree with this, especially considering there is a Pierce support gem. Even having a similar support to prevent piercing would be better than the current situation, but I would prefer no pierce by default.

I agree, ideally they would make Frostbolt so it doesn't pierce by default.
Yep. Default Frostbolt pierce is useless in comparison to its explosion. We need other options, besides Snakepit, to stop it from piercing.

No one wants to play Ice Nova/Cold Snap combos with Frostbolt at the endgame anyway.

1) Alternative quality gem. I guess this is the best option here, but the release of alt quality gems can take forever.

2) Passive tree. Smth like Branching Bolts or Turning the Clock Forward. 3 points, spells/Frostbolt don't pierce. Should be good. Frost Wall has Shattered Crystal/Ice Walls wheel, so why not add some QoL for Frostbolt too?

I guess the rework for Frostbolt isn't an option bc it was intended to play with nova/cold snap in the 1st place, but it would be great if we could have some freedom of choice here, not just Snakepit ring to make Frostbolt great to use.

Snakepit will still be used anyway, because Fork/Chain w/o damage penalty is good for many builds.

Good point, because they probably want people to use Coldsnap, at least in early/mid game, they probably won't change Frostbolt to no pierce as default.
So the best compromise would be your suggestions, an alternative gem or passive tree.
Does chain still prevent pierce? Used to in POE1
Agreed, the skill having to hit a wall to do damage is nonsense, it would be explainable if the damage was super OP but thats not the case

No, it doesn't. With the exception of chain from Snakepit ring.
Pierce has top priority over chain/fork here.

I was going to say the same thing. I haven't used it in a testing aspect vs pierce but i guess if the pierce is built to the skill then it would make sense. in the same way you can't make herald of thunder shock or herald of ice freeze even with supports
