Simple way to revive POE1

Step 1: if you have completed the campaign with at least one character, add option to skip levelling on char creation - this will create a char at lvl65 with all passives/reskills from campaign granted. All quests done. Vendors can sell you skill gems for free.
Step 2: every 2 months, rerun one of the past 5 leagues until a new one is developed - add simple modifiers to spice it up
Step 3: massive increase drop rate of everything for solo self found
Step 4: unlock auction house for non solo self found
Step 5: enjoy concurrent 200k+ players on steam

I don't think there is a single one of those I'm personally onboard with. Maybe step 2 but with a longer duration than 2 months? Maybe 3 or 4 months?

Someone that says they want this will regret it after trying it once, campaign may be a chore but without it character progression feels empty

Nobody that has actually played a game with an AH prefers it over this system. Think you got now high number of pricefixers, flippers and bots?Multiply it by x100 and you have the playerbase if AH exists. Put an item for 15c instead of 15d? Bot insta buys it in less than a second.
