im not sure but im pretty certain if one game server can host thousands of users of the game then one gaming pc can do whatever the server side would normally do for one of the thousand users plus all the client side stuff

for last epoch all the server side stuff was saved on my local hard drive and if you knew how to edit it you could change variables to for example copy paste a character and have multiple clones of your character to test out different builds or rename a character in game ect

it made me realise how other companies like blizzard are robbing people blind by charging $10 name change for literally changing a string of text in a database using an automated web service and front end website interface requiring zero human input

it also made me realise how pointless modern rpg games are that require hours and hours of ingame play time to unlock the end game when you view the progress as a database of variables that get changed from 0 to 1 when you complete a 10 hour in game quest line

perhaps if they did make a single player offline only client for poe1 they could lock players out of these files somehow to keep the grind real

cheers for all the replies btw glad im not alone >.>

It would be great if it contained all the leagues and you could choose between several of them and edit everything possible regarding the difficulty and the drop, but I'm afraid that will never happen.

anything is possible in this world just takes time and effort

sure they may not be willing to devote even one intern with an experienced dev supporting during their coffee break to do work on poe1 but if that is the case then things at ggg studio are in a dire situation indeed

cheers

giving an intern access to such things would def speed up the process of getting a stand alone client XD

get one of your interns on it with the occassional support from an experienced dev on their coffee break

cheers

don't think you realized how large the client is lol. i have the source code for a MMO from 2002~ (risk your life 2 by planetwide games), and it's bonkers. it's not even close to the complexity as poe. dependent on how their client/server is structured, it would be like asking a cat to powerwash your porch to get rid of the moss

People don't realize this. I have worked with actual source code and emulators for MMO's from two decades ago - namely Aion, Tera and Rappelz. For the average user here it is just like "Easy, just make it offline!" when in reality just a mere look at one of those games databases would blow their mind.

i agree nothing is ever easy or simple and anyone who says that is either being condescending or just plain ignorant

with regard to poe1 offline mode it was a joke earlier about how they should use an intern and an experienced developer taking a 10 minute coffee break in reality that joke would be better than how it is currently with poe2 taking 100% dev time

lets just see how it plays out and /remindme in 6months from now and the way i see it this can go one of a few ways

the positive outcome is that both games are developed poe1 just as much as before with 3month league cycles and poe2 the same if not more because its still in ea so both playerbases are happy

or a mixed outcome would be they might give us a way to play a snapshot of poe1 or poe2 in it's best known state and just continue to actively develop one of the two games in the future

the negative outcome is poe1 or poe2 might get dropped by ggg completely and servers shutdown for that game or even both if the company goes under

i guess time will tell as always what the outcome will be

i was there for that glorious game and was also there for auto assault and RG's tabula rasa which were terrible in their own right but when those servers get shut down and youre part of the last player run event on the server from a game that will never see the light of day again it just makes you more cynical about the next online only game you see hyped by a game studio

coh and older versions of wow are the ones i can of think that survive on through player driven private servers and hell blizz classic wow was based on nost pserver... that sentence from jay allen brack you think you but you dont aged like milk on a hot summers day

he probably said that because theyve spent money and dev time to take the game in a certain direction without listening to the community which just goes to show the players want what they want and dev studios are wrong sometimes

im very happy ggg is not dropping poe1 in the short term because it can break the mould and in fact end up being one of the greatest online gaming moments of all time

today is a good day keep on going ggg with poe1

cheers all

I seem to recall them responding to this a long while ago. Like closer to my start of playing the game over a decade ago than now. It was something along the lines of turning off the servers and calling it a day before giving an offline version.

It was so long ago, I think my memory could be off and/or they changed on the matter.
Thanks for all the fish!
