Does anyone like Chaos orbs?

Genuine question. I don't think I have ever had a good experience crafting with them. Is there a good suggestion on how to improve them?

I have not found them to be very useful.

Every piece of gear ive used them on has led to worse outcomes and the only good thing i gotten out of spamming 400 of them on jewels was +7% block +2 max fire res on two separate jewels.

I'm hoping there's some omen that can make them more worthwhile, but I still havent found any omens other than regal/flask recovery ones since 1.1 came out.
I just made a pretty cool mace with one.

It's a crap shoot but sometimes it pays off.
.

Put another way, if they didn't have chaos I'd have to annul and then exalt.
i love chaos orbs. the main use case for me is side-grade items. slamming chaos will either turn the item into a true upgrade or brick it straight to my 3-1 tab. saves me the headache of continually pricing my side-grade items in exchange for the immediate results of playing "hit or brick".

slamming chaos while crafting is iffier. it's fun to read the odds of when to chaos. slamming chaos on a 4 affix item to get all good mods feels awesome, especially when you exalt a 4 affix item with a dead mod just to get another strong mod, lowering your chaos value significantly.

chaos orbs are a far cry from real player agency in crafting, but for the price of ~2.5 exalts i find them rewarding vs the typical triple exalt slam.
Regardless if you like them or not, they are very much needed in crafting.

They are much more important than exalts imo, and also much harder to get (a bit too hard, devs really need to up the drop rate on chaos orbs)

How could they be more important than exalts? They ruin gear more than they help.

Chaos orbs are the finishing touch to the current "crafting system".
It doesn't seem inconsistent to me that they are rarer than exalted.
They will, at best, destroy a useless line to make it better/good, or at worst destroy the item.
In which case, you'll have to gamble again until the chaos orb can replace a specific line.

It's the icing on the lottery cake

Keep in mind they were improved through the crafting changes in the latest update .

Generally you are using Chaos Orb to remove 1 bad / low tier mod from an item who got 5 good / high tier mods . So the odds are not in your favor already . The more you repeat the operation the more likely you are to completely screw the item by rolling in Light Radius , Accuracy , T1 mods and so on . So :

Chaos Orb = Casino Roulette

The problem is the more advanced you are in the game , the more you need that perfect item that you know Crafting is incapable of delivering ... unless you are willing to sink obscene amount of currency you got from dumping Mirrors lmao

It is annulment orb + exalt combined.

More "deterministic" use is to spam them on jewels.
More "gambling" use is to try to "fix" item with few "bad rolls".

Just want to drop this here:

In last epoch, you had higher chance to fk up the item, destroying the high tier rolls.

I am not sure if fatty doo doo had similar ideas or not. But keep this in mind.

Yes.
It's very good.
