To everybody complaining about difficulty/one shots

Hello,

if you ever felt like you are constantly dying or there are too many one shots in the game this thread is meant for you.

In PoE 1 and 2 there is a huge difference between power levels. From just starting out in the campaign, the first map all the way up to late endgame. To keep the game interesting for all different levels of power, we as players have many different options to set the difficulty we want to play at.

On the atlas passive tree we can increase map difficulty by speccing into increased affix effect on waystones. Make bosses harder by increasing the boss levels. Make additional content harder. Pretty much everything.

Waystone affixes can sometimes have almost no effect and some are a big jump in difficulty like reduced maximum player resistances.

The waystone tier determines the area and monster level. The higher the tier, the more difficult it gets. This is also effected by irradiated and corrupted on the map.

Additional content make the game harder as well. Ritual limits the area to fight in and spawns monster right on top of you. Breach can easily swarm you with monsters. Expedition has, similar to waystones, extra affixes you can select that stack on top of each other.

All these difficulty levers we control determine how hard we make the content we run. We decide. If we crank all of them up to the maximum, at some step we reach a point where most characters get one shot by pretty much everything. Because this level of difficulty is meant for the best equipped characters with the best builds.

Most death occur because of setting the difficulty too high. I made that mistake myself in the beginning and I had to learn to progress my character and adjust the difficulty accordingly. If the game is too hard, the reason is because we set the difficulty to that. It was our decision.

So if you keep dying over and over again, or if you feel everything one shots you, please take a look at what difficulty you have selected for yourself. You may have to adjust the difficulty or improve your character.

Some attacks/spells are just meant to be avoided. Like the purple balls following you around, the purple plants that get spawned in a row by some archers, large slams, explosions and so on. Most of these effects already had their visual clarity improved and can be avoided somewhat easily by now. It may take some practice and knowledge though.

Another good point, many players don't yet understand how defenses work. There is a difference between mitigation and avoidance. Both have different strengths. This knowledge will build over time. There a video guides and Wiki entries that can help.

You really think ppl are so dumb to do content that is way to hard for them?

If i can clear a hole map with ease (have 5kES-2,5k Life with 80% evasion)and then get killen by a 5 sec delayed after death explosion of some sort, it is not HARD CONTENT" Just stupid gamedesign.

Evasion is not mitigation. It is good to sustain longer fights with many small hits. But it is horrible against large hits. Sooner or later you will get hit and that hit is not mitigated by Evasion. That is another good point. Many players don't understand how defenses work.

A 5 second delayed explosion simply has to be avoided. If a player stands there waiting for it to explode, it is on them, not the game.

Yes burning ground deals a lot of damage. Solution: Don't stand on burning ground.

There a bunch of places where YOU CANT AVIOD Burning ground, like when it takes up half of a Ritual for instance...or in the crypt map where hole hallways are FULL OF IT.


Reguarding the explosions....if you cant SEE what is exploding then you cant AVIOD IT.

Then why do you run a waystone that has burning ground on it, when you know that you cannot do burning ground maps? That is one of my points of the initial post. Waystone affixes. Read them.

GGG has already improved visibility and is continuously working on it. Most explosions are already visible well. This is not something that happens every map. This is an outlier that may happen maybe once in 20 maps or so. In this case I can only suggest playing more careful.

What of my statements do you believe to be untrue?

If you look above you can see an example. A player not reading waystone affixes, opening a map with burning ground (their decision) and then complaining about burning ground.
