As a straight man, I find your proposed motivation deeply off-putting, but I do agree that having the option to choose a character's gender is something I'd like.
Before becoming a PoE player, I played a lot of MMORPGs, and I always chose female characters—not as a reflection of my gender identity but simply because, as a straight man, I prefer admiring the design of female characters.
Even though I’ve spent countless hours playing the classes in the bottom-left corner of the passive tree in both PoE 1 and 2, I have absolutely no desire to control a male character. Just think about it—controlling and investing in a strange man’s body, helping him become stronger, more muscular, more “manly,” and swinging around a “totally non-sexual” giant weapon… Dude, I’m not even sure if that behavior is straight or the complete opposite.

you're exactly the same as one of my straight male friends. he told me if hes going to stare at a video character for 100s of hours, it might as well be a female butt.
i m the opposite where i like playing male characters to imagine i m a manly man with bulging muscles (irl i m not) but it goes to show people just want to play whatever they prefer.
