Most of the defender of xp loss want it to stay so that reaching level 100 is really "hard". Why cant we let xp loss start at level 90 and not at level 70. Casuals will reach their final build around level 90 and a lot will stop playing anyway with the current xp loss.
Why dont let them have a stress free experience till level 90 and the "achiever" will have what they want, level 100 only for the "hardcore"
What your suggesting is basicly how the game works.
The xp loss from dying at lvl 70 is the same exp as you get from killing 3 mob packs. If your struggling to reach level 90 because of exp loss then the exp loss isnt your problem, its that your build is terrible so your dying non stop.
Which is another reason for the exp loss being there, its telling you that your doing something wrong.

I don't care if it starts at 90. You really don't feel it until then anyway. Who is dying so much that they can't even reach 90? Maybe get some defenses in your build?
At the rate i'm going, me. I get bored and end up reading my second screen instead of playing.

yep, im lvl 90 ranger, i died so many times due to the fact that i couldnt see the attacks coming, there is no skill around it, u either play bs meta build or die, i dont like to follow meta that reduce my fps to 10, i have poison archer, i easily delte mobs even at lvl 18, but i die often even with over 92% evasion and then i lose so much exp, i honestly dont even feel like playing this game anymore. and to note all my resistences are 75, and chaos res is 58.
Then why are you focusing on levleling past 90? (which is trivial)
Instead of getting your chaos res to 75.
All attacks in the game are visible, its 100% skill related.

Yes and alot of us want a game where you actually have to look at your monitor to play it. So thats why we dont want this change.

Make the game engaging to play and maybe people won't get bored. Grinding for 200 hours a level isn't an accomplishment. It's not 1999 anymore. Know those level 99 in d2? Yep mostly botted, it'll happen here. Its not an accomplishment. Just because you have more time than someone else doesn't make you better than them. They could still be better mechanically than you but since they can't devote their entire waking hours to playing they won't hit max level. Having extra free time doesn't make it an accomplishment.

At level 70 you may be right, but what about the 80's? Seems some of the "defenders" like to pull up arguments that are so extreme (another one here" level 70 maps will give you multiple level") that i wont call them very convincing.

Everyone cries about 10% xp loss, but what really makes death unfair imo i loosing all of the "juice" from a failed map.
Agreed, as a poe1 player we are used to this and worse (as with 6 portals you could lose 60% of a level on one map).
It’s the ‘take all the fun off a failed map’ that is bad imo, reset it and make me clear it again sure but take off the boss, the league mechanics and making it’s just a bland map with nothing on it is bad.
You probably don’t know this, but they actually planned for maps to fail completely, making them impossible to run again. They just haven’t finished the Atlas regeneration mechanic yet, so they disabled this feature for now. Don’t worry, at release, if you die on a map, you won’t be able to run it again. And if you mess up all your maps, you’ll have to start the Atlas from scratch.
Yeah right, that feature is never surviving into full release. They would lose so many players if you can actually brick maps forever lmao

Also they most likely will make exp loss apply only at lvl90+, I have a feeling its gonna be in this big patch dropping after the livestream. Just a prediction.

They should just stop this stupid mechanic.
They can do it with a free decission BY THE PLAYER.
You want that archievement - ok than with penalty.
Archievements are 100 % unimportant to me.
For others they are very important.
Their decission and i am fine with that.
Or they can bring up a limit: You want that archievment?-> Great -> Die less than 5 times or something like that.

Honestly if they care so much about this mystical ladder and "race to 100" all the devs have to do is make it so any character who has opted out of exp loss and disabled it will not be ranked on the game's ladder. That's it. Problem solved. Now anyone who wants to race to 100 can enable exp loss and do it, and the rest of the 99% of players can disable it and you know, have fun in this videogame?
