The reason why XP penalty exists and why it's not for everyone

EvE online when I played it had it. Dark Age of Camelot, WoW when I played it, Last Epoch, Diablo had it, any MMO I played has/had it.
So I don't realy understand why it is discussed at all. Some sort of console/handhelt p2w behavior?

Now you are just making things up. WoW never had XP loss on death. Only durability damage.
The problem is when u reach level 100, u don't have much more to do. Never going to 100 is what makes u think u always have more to do. I think is conceptually not a bad idea, but...

Most of people just give up on level 90's and forget about it.

The best solution for me is to make more levels available, for those who wants a level run.
But beyond level 100, u don't gain more skill points, u could gain little things such as 1 atribute point.

That is what makes the infinite level run be still a desire in games like Tibia, for example.

We kinda had that on delve in poe 1, not the same, but some people competed for greater depths. WITHOUT losing "levels" even on death

I am absolut PRO exp-penalty. And against the ability to "hammer head forwared" to 100 without consequenzes. And before level 90 noone realy feels the exp-penalty anyway I belive (except your build or your skill is realy realy bad).

Maybe the expectation of "you must get max level" is more of a problem. Absolut no need to! In PoE 2 my goal is level 90, up to 95 is bonus, past that I don't care at all :). If it happens that my char by exident becomes 96 or even 97 there will for sure be any usefull passive I can spent the point on ;).

But I addmit it is part why I never plan past level 95 in PoE 1. Past 95 it's just to much "work" and hard grind to me. And I am fine with this!

It just does not fit together with the 1 portal penalty. Combiened they are to much penalty. Which on its own with the rarity of Citadels is far to much of a penalty I belive.

Diablo and WOW?
Almost every MMO I played don't have xp penalty, actually. Diablo in softcore don't have (only on weapon but u can repair with gold), WOW don't have. FF don't have. and I don't know any ARPG that have xp penalty to be real.

Lol DAOC exp penalty where you could level from 1-50 in like 2 hours was extremely punishing. And I totally forgot about the WoW death penalty. Was there a death penalty in Diablo 1? I don’t remember one. This guy games in the year 2000.

Lol. How are these "take away the XP penalty" threads still a thing. Y'all are wild.

I literally stopped caring about level at 96. I refuse to lose hours on end by random one shots. Like yesterday, I was in a 1100 waypoint Copper Citadel and there was literally nothing lethal about the map. 8K CI MOM Spark Stormweaver and I got 1 shot by a white mob off screen. How can I take that shit serious? I lost 6 Divine over absolute bs.

So, I'm just pushing BIS gear and I could care less about pushing to 100. Waste of time.

The experience needed from 96-100 is absolutely insane. Especially when you can lose 3-4 hours of farming from a random 1 shot. I would love to see them remove the xp penalty completely. This is supposed to be a new game on new ideas. No one like this xp penalty and everyone is asking for it to go. They are trying to attract a new base, and this single feature is going to drive them all away if it hasnt already.

Remove it.
Yep remove it it's just useless die at level 99 from a DC or a bug or else you'll just feel terrible specialy with the visual clarity of Poe 2 can't see shit on juiced map and the game is poorly optimised atm doesn't help at all.
The only persuasive way is to get one of the 8 current level 100’s to come out and say death penalty is bad. Everyone is just like never reaching management level in life and saying their management sucks.
Well, Path of Exile 2 and 1, are not games for everyone, so yeah.

I believe XP penalty should stay. People should be punished for bad builds or mistakes. Reaching level 100 should take LONG time and not be a goal really.

If you believe reaching level 100 should be something almost anyone should achieve within the season/league, just go back to D4.
