Trade System Issues in PoE 2 Exploits and Manipulation

You can already tell, market is already broken.

I bought my chest for 25 exalts and comparing it now it would be 19 divine.

There is no trade league worth it and the original poster is spot on in his/ her assessment of RMT taking over since regular people are already priced out of the market.
Very well written post couldn't agree more.

The entire economy is ruled by bots, preying on new players
Since Chris is gone, GGG needs to burn the outdated trade-manifesto and rethink their strategy.

also here is an entire reddit Thread about it.

Trade System Issues in PoE 2 Exploits and Manipulation

Issue Summary:
The current trade forum in Path of Exile 2 appears to use the same active search functionality as in PoE 1.

While this system was problematic in the first game, its reimplementation in PoE 2 has further exacerbated issues in the in-game economy. Specifically:

Unfair Advantages to Bots and Third-Party Tools:

Players using database search scanners or automated tools can buy desirable items faster than average players using the trade system manually.

These bots dominate the market, making fair and timely trades nearly impossible for legitimate players.

Economy Destabilization:

Bots and flippers exploit the trade forum, artificially inflating or manipulating prices.

This creates a cycle where the economy becomes hostile to casual and legitimate players, forcing them to engage with third-party sites to compete.

Incentive for Real-Money Trading (RMT):

The inefficiency and imbalance of the in-game trade system drive players to third-party platforms for cash transactions.

This undermines the integrity of the game and promotes a pay-to-win environment, which contradicts the core philosophy of fair gameplay.

Trade Forum Instability:

The trade forum crashes frequently, often on an hourly basis or more, as if the server is being overloaded or DDoS’ed by excessive actions.

These crashes appear to be caused by third-party sites and bots aggressively manipulating the database with active searches.

As a result, players spend more time refreshing pages than trying to buy or trade items, further diminishing the user experience.

Impact on Gameplay:

Players lose trust in the trade system as they feel outpaced by those exploiting automation.

The market disparity reduces accessibility to important gear, crafting materials, and other resources, particularly for newer or less-experienced players.

Frequent forum crashes disrupt trade entirely, leaving players frustrated and unable to participate in the economy.

The reliance on third-party sites creates an ecosystem that profits from unethical practices, harming the game’s reputation.

Recommendations:

Anti-Bot Measures:

Implement stronger detection and prevention systems to identify and ban bots that abuse the trade system.

Fairer Trade Mechanics:

Introduce cooldowns or limits on rapid item transactions to curb flipping and botting.

Add features that prioritize fair trades, such as randomizing listing visibility or requiring user confirmations.

Improve In-Game Trading Tools:

Build a user-friendly, secure trading platform integrated into the game to reduce reliance on third-party tools and sites.

Include features like price comparison and trend analysis, giving legitimate players more competitive tools.

Stabilize the Trade Forum:

Optimize the forum infrastructure to handle high activity levels without frequent crashes.

Investigate and mitigate potential abuses or overloads caused by third-party tools and excessive search queries.

Transparent Communication:

Clearly communicate to the community the steps being taken to address trade system abuses and forum instability.

Regularly update players on anti-bot measures, trading system improvements, and changes to the trading economy.

Conclusion:
The current trade system in PoE 2 is creating an uneven playing field, alienating the legitimate player base, and driving them toward unethical third-party markets.
The frequent crashes of the trade forum further amplify the frustration, making trading an unreliable and frustrating experience.
Addressing these issues promptly is crucial to restoring trust and fairness in the in-game economy.
A rework of the system, alongside enhanced anti-bot enforcement and forum stability improvements, is necessary to protect the integrity of the game and its community.

very well thought out and put together information and I agree and have been fighting for this for years. It's been a plague on this game and it's growth.
Thanks all for the support. Hopefully the developers change this system for poe2.

gosh i hope because the game needs it and has needed it for awhile (hints the currency exchange and how that became their best league ever in poe1). it's not about making things stupidly simple or easy it's about not making them overly tedious and annoying just to be those things just "because".

There's also massive botting going on already in early access, spamming from currency selling websites, and RMTING out the ^&^*^*(&( so there's really no excuse not to already make it happen since people biggest excuses is it makes progression to fast!!! well wth does that matter when literally a chunk of your community is RMTing.. like a big chunk.. and also botting.. already which was another reason people were suggesting not to have a auction house because it would bring botters to the game.. but they are already here.. lol... like what..

their excuses fall short and are most likely to gate keep normal players and to corner markets on the trade website or discords like the old treasure find discord debacle.. gosh.. another one of THOSEEE SITUATIONS.. yeah lets do thatttt again.. after spending all this time developing this new version of poe just to go back to old habits..

but watch GGG not respond to a well thought out post by the original poster.. and just ignore it because they just refuse to acknowledge the problem and are basically encouraging these bad situations and problems at this point. :/

I've messaged about 50 people for a particular item and nadda. Either the bots are messaging so quick, everyone else loses, or I have very, very bad luck ;-) fix it!
some just never answer, or are always AFK, like their is 1 person for 50 computers they are managing, this is so uncool to have this system in a new poe 2.

I wouldn't say they are bad, because the game is great. They are just not thinking this fully through and aren't fully grasping what the problem is with their trade website and what the problems are that a lot of the community is having. There are lots of people complaining on every site I go to about it saying they hate the curretny trading system and have zero clue why GGG didn't change it.

It is their decision after all but I promise you it will sink this game fast having to use the crappy trade website solely on the fact it isolates the console player base and forces them to use their phone or grab a laptop and use that right next to their "other gaming device" which is tedious, clunky, and janky at best feeling in a 2024. People wont deal with that stupid crap and will move on faster and faster these days and GGG is basically saying F you to those players who play on console so guess what your console port that you took so long to build is now worthless or will have a massive amount less of player retention simply because they think they know better because of a really REALLY old developer manifesto that even back then people gave them crap about.
Didn't realize console players had that issue, noted. ty

I play with controller on pc using my TV, I use the trade website on my phone, the experience is not too bad and preferable to tabbing out to use it
