Corrupted skill gem

Hi everyone,

i'm pretty new to PoE and don't understand a lot of these things and i'm just trying stuff out. So i used a vaal orb on the skill gem "sunder" to see what would happen and apparently it did nothing. Is this a bug or can this happen? Like it says "Corrupted" on the bottom of the tooltip but in my eyes none of the stats changed.

Anyone has an answer?

Nothing happening is one of the possible results.
It could also gain a level, lose a lvl, gain quality of lose quality.
