Totembringer: Campaign to endgame - Huge AOE & 430K+ Boss DPS - (2H + Shield | 2H + 2h)

Hi,

I would like to know if « increased attack speed » nodes affect shockwave totem ?
I guess no because there is no attack tag on Shockwave totem but maybe i’m wrong.

Yes Attack Speed nodes affect totems, skill speed is one as well. Attack speed makes the build play smoother because it lowers the time between casting the totem and the first attack. I did a bunch of testing using the method I posted on one of the previous pages.

The most important metric for how the build feels for me is the TUFA (time until first attack) clicking the spell to the first attack, so my testing was focused on lowering this latency.

1) Start a 120 fps recording
2) Remove all gems
3) Setup a test case for my Shockwave Totem
- This meant adding specific passves, support gems or gear
- Included testing with zero quality level 1 Shockwave
- Also tested with my 19/20 quality as well
4) Start recording
5) Use my Shockwave Totem skill
6) Wait for it to attack 2 times (I ran some with 3 times to make sure the interval between attacks [1, 2, 3] are constant).
7) Stop my Shockwave Totem skill
8) If it was a double cast (made two totems) go back to step 4, otherwise done

Following this method with many different combinations I SUSPECT (but do not concretely know, due to the lossyness of my testing method) that the TUFA is very likely to be affected by an activation constant which is not influenced by anything other than the Shockwave Totem quality and the Skill Speed. This can be proven by stacking substantial attack speed and casting the totem. You will notice the time between the initial placement and the first attack remains constant, while the time until the 1st and 2nd attack are identical.

Getting access to skill speed for testing is difficult, I ended up using a From Nothing Diamond jewel with "Passives in Radius of Dance with death can be Allocated without being connected to your tree" to allocate the skill speed near it, with the added benefit of giving access to a couple decent block nodes, you can find it in the video here:
video skipped forward to the time I show this setup

If anyone has different findings let me know, or run the tests and verify the information. I had much less access to gear, passives and so on when I tested this. I could do much better now I think but I'm happy with the gameplay so I'll stay at this conclusion until someone tests it with more rigor.

Also note I got my hands on a jewel with + to level of shockwave totem skills. It raises the level of shockwave on the skill list by +1 but does not increase the damage. This means one of two things:

1) Shockwave totem has a level cap of 39 or 40
2) Jewels are bugged right now with + to level of skills

The theoretical maximum right now is:
21 skill
3 amulet (24)
2 gloves (26)
7 2H Wep #1 (33)
7 2H Wep #1 (40)
3 jewel (43)

The only unknown for me is if corruption can boost a +7 to +8, currently unknown for me. I have seen it boost mods up to 35% so far. May or may not boost a melee skill. If it does that means the max will be +45.

Very cool info. Is there some trick for searching trade for one of these other than scrolling through every Prism of Belief? I couldn't figure out a way to isolate for shockwave totems. Would love to check it out / play with contours of the potential bug.

Has been good to check in on this thread periodically as we develop our SWT builds in parallel. Slightly different direction, but all good information. Appreciate your work.

No way to filter things unfortunately as far as I could find. I watched the trade with live search anytime I was online and finally found a +3 one for 6 divs, unfortunately a Chinese trader bought it first and reposted it for 150. The best I could get my hands on was a +1 for 3 divs.

I've since determined it must be a bug since I've gotten my totem skill up to level 40 and the tooltip dps changed. Here is a video displaying the bug:

This video also shows us the peak for shockwave will be 40. The best that jewels (once fixed) or corrupted shockwave will do is open up gear options, which admittingly could be huge and allow derivative builds that leverage uniques in those slots.

Very good. Much appreciation for the research. We could theoretically hit 40 by corrupting to a lvl 21 gem, but I agree that the existence of that jewel potentially relieves pressure on other gear slots (and corrupting my only lvl 20 6-link is too much for me right now)--great find!

i got a question regarding jewels:

is "Adds # to # Physical Damage to Attacks" really better then "# increased totem damage"?
Waht r the best things u can get on ur jewels? (accept +1 melee since it is buggy)
I think weapon swapping is a disgusting mechanic.
i am having mana issues around level 17.Damage is great but i am drinking mana flask often. Is there anyway to solve this? I have +4 melee skill atm.

Care to elaborate?

Flat physical damage is super good early on, it does fall off as the totem scales up though as its flat damage grows to huge values. I have been using jewels to experiment with things, so far nothing really feels better then stacking the basics, damage multipliers (melee phys, global phys, totem damage, etc) and speed (attack speed, totem cast speed can feel nice) and some of the non-tooltip modifiers that have big impact to feel in practice in some situations such as increased damage vs broken armour. Best bet is to just experiment until the gameplay feels smooth. Dont forget their are nice defensive mods like chance to block too.

Yea as I leveled through campaign I was constantly balancing my damage vs resource cost. One thing I've done is swapped to just using 3 totems, I did it a couple times in the early levels and used Inspiration instead and it helped a lot. Play around with things until you find a nice balance, but definitely for better or for worst get used to using flasks :p
Hi! Sorry if this way already asked. What spirit buff should I first take? Herald of Ash, Magma Barrier, Scaveneged Plating?
