I actually didn't do my first ascension until lvl 37 and had picked the mana regen venom draught before that. I ascended as a blood mage and apparently I screwed myself royally with that choice. Feels bad to have to bin a lvl 37 char and restart just because smth stupid like that. Just make the quest repeatable, go get more venom, get new draught, swap buff. Done deal.

Can't say more than this we had the same issue in poe1 with the bandits and we now have more accessible system to respec through gold so please allow us to change venom.
