POE2 - Rejoin divergent weapon set skill point paths?
There are sections of the passive skill tree where one path will diverge into multiple paths for a few nodes before converging into one again. At the divergence, if you allocate weapon set skill points along separate paths, it doesn't seem like you can "rejoin" them at the node where the paths converge again, even though that converged node is adjacent to allocated nodes from both weapon sets.
For a specific example, look at the northwest cluster of the caster starting area (north start). After the first "Elemental Damage" cluster north of the "Raw Power" notable, you can branch along three different paths. Say you allocate 2 points from your first weapon set to the "Cold Damage" node and the "Path of Winter" notable along the middle path, and 2 points from your second weapon set to the "Lightning Damage" node and the "Path of Storms" notable along the right path. Both of those paths converge at the following "Elemental Damage" node to the north. But I do not see a way to allocate a generic passive point to that node to "rejoin" the weapon set branches. It only allows the allocation of a weapon set passive point. Am I missing something? Is this by design? Can anyone offer any insight? What you're talking about does seem like something intuitive to use the system for.
Without having played myself, I assume the issue is an under-the-hood thing related to transformations. I think people mentioned that for the Infernalist's demon form thing, you get swapped to a third weapon set without weapons equipped? If that's the case, then anything else that might cause a transformation with set weapons--which, at some point, might include unique items that anyone could use--would cause such a path through the passive tree to break. |

Wow, that's a pretty sharp observation! It would definitely make sense. I do remember Johnathan mentioning reworking or adjusting the relationship between transforms and equipped weapons in one of his interviews. So if that is the cause of not being able to reconcile divergent skill tree paths, I hope they consider that consequence in their next iteration. It feels antagonistic to the role of the weapon set skill point system to be unable to split and rejoin their paths.
