Campaign vs Maps
In the interest of thinking about how GGG could improve the campaign I had a thought experiment: if GGG made it possible to skip the campaign, what would they have to do so that people would voluntarily choose to do the campaign anyway? (I've edited the first sentence in this paragraph for clarity.)
The major thing that occurred to me is that how you encounter character progression and challenges in the campaign is pretty much the reverse of how you encounter these things in maps. In the campaign you need to progress the story and defeat the major bosses so that you can level up further. In maps you level up so that you can defeat the major bosses and progress the story. Like if you think about the campaign, it's super easy to get overleveled, and in maps it's pretty easy to go ahead to content that's too difficult for your character to handle. Just thought I'd share this idea, because I think it might be the key to making a game campaign more enjoyable, and I was wondering what other people might think :) EDIT: Just to be clear, I don't think there should be a campaign skip. The point of the thought experiment here is to improve the campaign, not to suggest that it should be skippable. It's like, why does GGG own your soul when you get to maps, but not earlier? I would like them to harvest more souls. Is it not possible for them to make the game as enjoyable as it is in maps right from the start? Why not? no, just staph.

" Why on earth would they do anything to keep people from playing the campaign, which they've spent blood, sweat and tears to create? Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

Start your thesis with a reason campaign skip should exist.

GGG already allows you to skip most of the campaign.
You just buy uiques and rares, all skill gems with 20 quality, etc and then you do a walking simulator for 2 hours and next thing you know you are at maps, with all the skill points, bandit choice, etc. |
|
" I would always do the campaign. I do not see maps as more interesting than the campaign (both at end are a collection of maps). |
|
" No, I don't think there should be a campaign skip (however, this is clearly a miscommunication on my part since a bunch of people had the same misunderstanding, therefore I've edited my post for clarity). The question is, why did Chris say that once people get to maps he owns their soul, but not earlier? Why can't the game suck you in like that right from the start? As I said at the end of my original post, I think that question is the key to making the campaign more enjoyable. That doesn't mean that I want to be able to skip the campaign, but it does mean that I think that the campaign could be better. Last edited by Kalistri#2788 on Dec 1, 2024, 5:04:49 PM

" But but ... rmt doesn't exist in any amount to be concerned with ... . GGGs decision to stay with full open trade even though they must know their game is one of the most rmt'd and botted arpg, is a real disappointment. |
|
" Sorry if my comment was misinterpreted. You do not need to RMT, you buy the items with in game currency when it is time to level your second third or fifth character |
|
" Tbh, I feel like the game is not a whole lot more difficult than that for your first character. Maybe part of this is that I know the game too well, lol, but to me that's kind of the whole problem, I hate walking simulators. |
