If diablo can handle millions. I’d hope ggg can manage a few thousand.

Where are these players? These forums are effectively dead. The Poe discord has barely 100k. I’m just wondering where these hundreds of thousands of players are hiding? You can’t base a game population off a twitch stream.

Just look up the quote from GGG from the Settlers league launch. It was 350k concurrent players. EA will be close to 3x that amount conservatory, is my guess.

I don't believe that at all.

Settlers league was quoted at 10k on launch from steam, they have nothing to gain from a lie. Twitch viewers are around ~5k as of right now. Just not seeing where this 1000% increase of players is coming from. The forums are pretty quiet. Twitch has stated 5k viewers. Steam has reported 10k players. I mean... lol the #'s are all there. The hottest YT video on POE hardly got 2.5k likes and that's from 2 months ago... to say that 350k people played on launch all at one time sounds like a fib. Just not seeing any evidence to support that. The Twitch stream did have over 100k viewers though. That was the most I've ever seen for POE at one time. It's like a football stadium.

You can believe it or not, does not make it untrue. Look at steam charts (https://steamcharts.com/app/238960) 228k peak concurrent players in July (Kalguur release). Not to mention GGG posted it (https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3536463).

GGG need decide spending for extra hardware to handle all this traffic or just let it be and after few weeks after the hype has settled, server load goes back to normal and able to handle the load as anticipated

Given the current hyped situation, pretty sure the load is going to be huge, i playing from South East Asia Region and even on PoE 1 on normal days our latency from 7pm to 12pm is spiking like mad from time to time

Realy hope i am able to enjoy PoE 2 EA this Friday with minimum server downtime

Busy day for GGG on launch day, all the best and cheers
I'd put it at a 50/50, and I don't mean that in a sarcastic way. GGG has been doing much better with league launches and the last few have gone pretty smoothly (give or take).

The hard part with league launches is, as a free game there is no way to tell how many people will be playing until they actually queue. With PoE2 they have a pretty close estimation as everyone needs to have keys to play (obviously they know how many key's they've sent).

The main question is how well they can scale the back-end servers (harder servers to scale) on this somewhat short notice of two weeks. I hope they can have a smooth launch, but I'll find it hard to be mad at them considering just about EVERY other big gaming company seems to screw up highly anticipated launches.
I think their sysops have enough experience with servers crashing and burning so they have their contingencies in place.

Importantly, they know exactly (more or less) how many people will be playing the game because of how many suporter packs they sold.

That being said I have no high hopes of playing for the first several hours. I didn't get the pack to play the beta anyway, it was out of respect for the work they put out for this game, even though it will kill poe 1 in less than two years.

The 350k concurrent players includes standalone and other platforms. There is no exclusivity in that post.

With some extrapolation from the current Steam Top Sellers list, we can accurately assume that PoE2 has sold more than 1 million copies. On steam. Only on steam. I, like many, have purchased my copy from the website because I prefer the standalone launcher.

I'm not sure, but this may exclude some console platform sales? Don't know much about my Neanderthal gaming brethren to be honest.

Back on topic though: There is no way the servers will handle the load. This is a given. As someone in this thread already said, login queues, disconnects, extreme lag, maybe even rollbacks (God forbid).

Fortunately (?) I am working this entire weekend and am off Monday and Tuesday.
Lets pray to St. Moore that servers will hold.
