PoE2 runes being permanent
" This. The entire thread seems to be based on a flawed hypothetical that won't really exist, where you have to worry about putting low-end runes in mirror-tier gear or vice versa. That's... not going to happen? And if it does, someone chose to do it even though they knew not to, so... yeah. Yet another "not a problem" being freaked out over for zero reason... this entire community needs to chill out, seriously |

I got impression that you can rewrite rune with the other one. Of course previous one is destroyed in the process. Is there any confirmation about it by devs?

Does any of this conversation really matter?
If they are common, it won't matter because they are common. If they are rare, it won't matter because they are rare and will make you treat them as such. Even new players don't brick items more than three or four times before learning....not to do that with valuable or rare things. Starting anew....with PoE 2

You should be able to freely use runes as you wish. Put it in, take it out, trade it. Whatever.
The current iteration is just stupid. ~ Seph

" That's true of every mod in comparison to another lol. What is the crafting bench if not a deterministic exalt paired with an annul? What is a support gem if not a portable unique item mod? What is a flask if not a secondary piece of gear? What is a jewel if not a collection of exalts for the passive tree? Etc. What is the new rune enchant system of this league if not a deterministic lab enchant / synthesis enchant? Sort of a silly thought tbh...every single "new" craftable or system of power is similar to an old one with some extra gimmick. Are you trying to say there's some sort of problem with that? Good luck coming up with completely new ideas every 3 months forever lol. Starting anew....with PoE 2 Last edited by cowmoo275#3095 on Nov 30, 2024, 6:32:07 PM

^so now you are saying it IS a new mechanic unlike the ones before it lol? You pulled a 180 there. If you are trading a socket usable for something else to permanently instead add a mod....then its nothing like an exalt, now is it? Because an exalt is limited by the natural mods of the item whereas this is external and additional.
And yet obviously its still "similar" to literally any possible way of changing/adding/removing mods to items. Just like how essences are like all the other things you mentioned. Everything in the game is "similar" to everything else, it just depends on what you are comparing. Who determined sockets were "only" allowed to have temporary items in them? This is a brand new game, obviously the same "rules" wouldn't apply in every situation. Come on man.... Starting anew....with PoE 2 Last edited by cowmoo275#3095 on Dec 1, 2024, 12:00:50 AM

" And just as I wrote...this is a brand new game. There is no precedent. You want to see it as an extension of PoE 1 but it is not. Your rationale is based on PoE 2 requiring the same set of rules and mechanics as an entirely different game. Starting anew....with PoE 2

not being able to remove runes simply means players will hoard items/runes and never use them unless SSFing.
even back in older arpgs we could choose to salvage our gear OR runes. [Removed by Support] Last edited by exsea#1724 on Dec 1, 2024, 8:49:58 PM

" Yep it will be just like how players used to hoard exalts and not use it on their items. Unless perfect versions of the best runes are easy to get which is unlikely. |

I was hoping there would be no gear maintenance in poe 2 but here we are with sockets which i’m sick of seeing in every fucking arpg. And we can’t remove the runes. So you craft or find a chest upgrade but don’t have the rune so you just have to wait and trade just to wear your gear? Yikes.
