Soo...Tencent completely owns GGG?

What data?
What exactly is your concern, that they see your browser history? that you copy-paste SC builds? they see your GTX970 with outdated drivers on a outdated Win10?

What exactly is so precious, considered important, in your data?

Elaborate

The concern isn't necessarily about the data itself or its "importance" to anyone—it’s about the principle of ownership and autonomy over personal information. Companies, regardless of their intentions, shouldn’t be entitled to access, analyze, or monetize someone’s data without explicit consent, simply because they can.

Whether it’s a browser history, gaming preferences, or system specs, the issue lies in the precedent that unchecked data collection sets. It normalizes invasive practices and builds systems where personal privacy is no longer respected or valued. Over time, this fosters a culture where individuals lose control over their digital presence and, by extension, their personal agency.

It’s not about hiding something; it’s about drawing a line. Data, no matter how trivial or mundane, belongs to the individual, not the company. Ensuring that companies operate with this respect safeguards not just privacy, but also the foundational trust required for a functional and ethical digital society.

Your comment highlights the unfortunate lack of critical thinking that some gamers often display.

you cannot stop data collection, any such attempt will be unenforceable. the problem is how such data is used. this is a much deeper problem with the modern society that tends to reward unethical behaviour.
I don't trust China at all, it's like giving Mossad control of a Pagers Company :D
You don't know when they'll press the red button...

Take a look at Genshin Impact's anti-cheat, it is an open door to infection.

it's like giving Mossad control

you don't need to, they have Pegasus

You should uninstall most of your apps on the PC and stop using gmail, Chrome, and literally everything else then, because i have very bad new for you bro

That's not lack of critical thinking, that's accepting that in 2024 there's nothing like "i have my privacy i dont consent sharing it". IT giants dont need your approval
Tencent acquisition of GGG
tencent has full control over POE CHINA client
GGG has full control over POE International

But TENCENT BAD! - with tencents money GGG actually had so much financial stability that they made many controversial changes such as divine/exalt flip, poofing alternate quality gems, insisting on AN etc. and even had enough funds to push poe2 forward.

with tencents money poe2 might be pushed years back or would lack a huge amount of polish you see today.

if you learn anything about business, loans/capital play a good deal in a businesses growth.

similarly in poe its easier to farm currency if you have 10-20 divs worth of gear before hand. compared to without.

as for "china has my data".

sadly everyone has your data. even google/facebook has your data.

Some guy on the internet : no i wont give you my data !!!

same guy later that day , creates account for some game.
gives first , last name , email , phone number , country , credit card
and everything else .
on top of that dosnt read the terms and just clicks agree ,
and terms asked does he consent to losing all human rights .
No, they don't. They care about ALL of GGG. You don't do business with China unless you agree to become part of their military and intelligence agencies. It's how it works with everyone who does business with the country.
To be clear, this is not only about data; China could launch a cyberattack against governments or another company using every player device if they wanted to.
You wouldn't even know ...
Ultimately, it comes down to whether or not you trust China.
I doubt Tencent cares what GGG does for the PC game but they're probably the reason PoE mobile withered on the vine. A non-predatory mobile game like GGG wanted has no value to a company in 2024.

Haha I'm using a free VPN, no chance of anyone stealing my data and browsing habits with that installed

Anyone want to tell him? Oh wait, his VPN is so good it has me confused if he is being serious or sarcastic ...
