Settlers 2 Fumble

" Think his point might have been that Sentinel/Affliction are so underwhelming in terms of rewards vs time added in Settlers league. .. and while the Sentinel was pretty cool (click once, get lots of loot) Afflicion was only tolerated becuase the loot was beyond anything we'd seen before; the mechanic itself was a dumbsterfire, doubling the time per map, encouraging players to contort your client window if you didn't have a widescreen (to see the extension-ligths much further away), belt swapping out of HH so you didn't get randomly teleported into the darkness, likely playing one of the few MF builds that could go beyond T7 maps without mirror tier MF gear etc etc. And lets not mention that forums/reddit in Affliction were a shitstorm of forumers complainging about the chaos damage and homing green balls (which happened again now that it was brought back into Ritual) and that they couldn't clear their maps after they'd been in the forest due to the toughness/offense added to the mobs. But just like Ultimatum, people seem to remember the loot aspect, not what wasn't so great. That rose-tinted glass is called nostaliga. Sentinel and Affliction is arguably not even worth enganging with in Settlers, and depending on the build might be a net-loss due to the toughness (thus time) it adds when engaged with. Personally very happy to get an excuse to play some PoE again after being done for more than 2 months. And while the latern isn't insane, it's a fresh start in a solved league with a bit more economy regardless of SSF or SC. Last edited by FalkenRaiding#1068 on Nov 3, 2024, 12:40:05 PM

" Yup couldnt be said any better. And ultimatum loot was garbage anyways. It was random pieces of corrupted gear and bad currency back then, and its the same thing today + catalysts lol. Affliction definitely brought a loot bias perspective to this game for some players as seen at the start of the league. Happy to restart settlers that has been fleshed out now with everything along with the added lantern. Just gotta figure out what weird melee build to try though Mash the clean

Lets get the "72 of each maps stored" started! Waiting till everyone gets pinged in a random discord server where the good loot is at..
What a fun event. |

my POV.
GGG is busy prepping up for POE2 EA the fact they actually came up with settlers 2 is better than nothing. should they do better? ideally yes. realistically, theyre not able to. GGG has been rather quiet thru out the league. theres no new changes towards settlers 1 either for weeks. should they do better? yes. but its understandable why they didnt. [Removed by Support]

I honestly am confused why so many people are mad about getting more content to do in this 6+ month drought. It's better than not having any events, I for sure am gonna play in this one since its fun starting in a fresh league.
And since we know exactly how the league mechanic works, now people can upgrade and optimize their town much faster, and some people like me will completely ignore atlas runners since they're just a scam goldsink lol(I wasted well over 2 mil gold on rerolling for rank 10 atlas runners in Settlers league, the best rewards I got were random divines and valdo's puzzle boxes) This event is also a breath of fresh air for players like me who usually hard-focus on challenges at the start of a league, so I end up spending a LOT of my divines early on for stuff like voidstone carries etc. etc. And I always do really weird atlas trees, not blocking mechanics that I don't enjoy because they have some kind of challenge associated with them that I need to do. But in this event I get to actually focus only on obtaining gear for my build. I get to do whatever atlas tree I want. I can just play without caring about challenge completion. I'll play simply because I'm curious how fast I can speedrun my build's progression, and then farm t16 Mesa maps while sharing the Black Knight challenge for free with other players cus I find that fun and satisfying to do. Same with the catarina "dont get hit by statue" challenge, I farm her passively for veiled orbs so I call in 5 other players every time to get the challenge done for them. That's basically how I was having fun at the end of Settlers even after being done with 40 challenges. Don't know how many other people there are who are so obsessed with speedrunning challenges like me but I'm definitely gonna enjoy this event. The mystery box and lantern mods are just a nice bonus, I would have played this even if it didn't have those. Latnern with no downsides is amazing, it means the maps won't become artificially harder AND I get free loot/packsize/whatever every map. Would more stuff be nice? Sure but I don't think they have the time for that. They're probably rushing to get PoE 2's stuff done. I personally would love if they added Allflames in this event, those were fun to use and had nice rewards. Or even if they went core. But I'll take what I can get, and this event is more than good enough for me to have fun for weeks lol Last edited by Toforto#2372 on Nov 4, 2024, 11:28:15 AM

" -1, disagree. It's not better. It will split the already small remaining player base, resulting in not 1, but 2, worse off trade economies. - This should have been mitigated by adding enough reward/fun incentive to bring players that have quit back to the game, but that will almost certainly not be the case (and anyone who does come back will likely only play to level 50). “Freedom is what we do with what is done to us.”

" While it might detract from the regular 3.25.1, "splitting the remaining players" is pure guesswork on your part. In fact, judging by the insignificant vocal minority of players on the forums, one could just as well guess that current active players don't see the fun of starting fresh, so they'll stay put in 3.25.1. My GUESS is that most of the people that will play 3.25.2, aren't current 3.25.1, but returning players like myself that quit months ago, and now get a fresh start while we wait. But what is definately true, is that neither you, me or anyone knows exactly what'll happen. Last edited by FalkenRaiding#1068 on Nov 4, 2024, 1:25:14 PM

I would like if this event has more gold.
Settlers league mechanic is a lot of micro early and a lot of gold to roll for high rank shippers / farmers. Gold is just bad at league start, even in t16 maps without juice it's veryyy mediocre at 10kish per map. You need to juice hard to produce nice 40-80k maps. |

If this is going to be a whole event where i have to rebuild the whole city, and all i get is some chaos i don't care about it at all, the settlers mechanic isnt even working that well since your mappers contantly die while you have to dump a shitton of gold to get a t10 mapper again.
I don't want to play for like 8 hours make some divines, wake up next day and see bunch of posts how someone made twice as much as me in an hour because the whole server got a 2% div drop chance for an hour. And if they DON'T add the div drop chance "individually" it's also pointless because why would i play a very budget version of affliction? |
